“I’ve talked to tons of young people who’ve said to me, ‘I’d love to be a part of that program, but I don’t want to parade around in a swimsuit,’” Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News anchor who is now the organization’s chairwoman, said in an interview. “I get it.”

Liberals, "leftists", "rightists", conservatives and Christians have nothing to do with it. It's what the potential contestants don't want to do on the program. They want to be judged based on their talents.

talents like what playing music??

whatever this is the most ridiculous time to be alive the 2012 apocalypse is happening right before our eyes

it's obvious we've entered a new polarity on the next iteration of the sine wave

all the 0's are now becoming 1's

How about a Pantsuit competition with Hillary as the head judge?

Oh gawd please don't.

Google image "Hillary in swimsuit". WARNING: not for the faint of heart, especially those contards.

this next wave of political correctness brought to you by Progressives.

Aren't the far right conservatives the ones who want their women covered?

Just covered in glitter.

And baby oil.

The men ALWAYS forget the baby oil.

Changing cultural norms... for the worse.

That is your opinion, but as the newer generations come up, it is they who decide the evolution of societies.

This used to be a simple pageant... the goal of which was that the prettiest girl won.

Sure. Quite a pointless goal, wouldn't you agree?

If you honestly think that there is something wrong with someone appreciating the human body then your programming is complete.

I did not say that.

But "gasp" women competing only on the merits of their physical attributes? Now we can't have that. After all, the others don't get participation trophys, do they? Ugly girls can't get in? THAT'S not inclusive at all!!!!!

I'm sure you can find similar contests at your local strip club.

What you are missing is that the Progressive movement cannot withstand individualism. Or, god forbid, exceptionalism.

No... we all need to be little grey boxes with an American Hyphen Whatever stamped on it, to be put in the correct box so that we are easier to control.

This is just a part of it.

Control? That is what your Social Security number is for.

Hyphenated-whatevers and correct boxes are more about evolving cultures, not politics.

I would spend more time on the subject with you, but I have read your posts over the years and have concluded that any attempt to show you an alternate viewpoint from your own would be, in essence, polishing a turd.

Sure. Not sure I really care.

So on that note put on your Captain Sophism cape, make sure CNN is on the other monitor, hunker down and fight the good fight!

Nah. I'm not in to roleplaying, but I do look good in a cape.

If only there were a pageant for people like me...

Supposedly last year's Miss Minnesota had a muslim woman who wore a burka for all 3 stages of the event, including swimsuit. One can only assume she was rocking a mini micro Brazilian under that grill cover and it was spectacular.

Having been to several malls in the UAE, the amount of lingerie, make-up, and perfume stores there, it would seriously not surprise me if that was actually the case. Talked with a Muslim co-worker over there, and he assured me that while they do not flaunt it publicly, they most certainly flaunt it in private.

I gotta say, with the eye make-up that I saw going around, if the rest looks like the eyes they're probably pretty dang good looking under it all.

Ever harvested the oil of newborn babies?

Makes for an *exceptionally* crispy grilled bacon and cheese sammich. The glitter is just cosmetic, for presentational purposes. Totally safe.

Its about time they get with the program and start covering up the women! Its sinful skin that must be obfuscated...for progressivism and feminism and stuff.

now, if we can only get rid of the ankle exposure...

Mandatory breast reduction surgery is next, and no open toed shoes, no manis or pedis.

Uh progressivism and feminism have nothing to do with it. It's the potential contestants who don't want to walk around scantily clad.

LOL, true dat.

Am I the only one snorting over the hypocrisy of the activists who are all about the Body Positive s# today a la "The human body is beautiful, revere it!", but knocking a swimsuit contest?

Do these dumbasses even hear themselves talking? I thought the human body was beautiful and I'm supposed to revere it?
Now I'm not supposed to because its sexist?
Does that mean the human body of any variety is really not that fantabulous after all?

Addressing the OP:

As a guy, I like to look at bodies, but I also respect women. What women want to do with their own body, what they want to show, is their own business, but that is not an invitation to harassment or assault of ANY kind.

If Miss America wants to make it less about superficiality and more about substance, that's their business. Women have always and will continue to be lusted after and identified by many (sometimes with themselves) with their bodies. Whether they are "hot," athletic, or not, to make Miss America, in part, about the hottest body does a disservice to the millions of women who don't have nice bodies. I might not be physically attracted to large women, but that does not define who they are, because who they are is their person, who they are inside, what makes them singularly unique.

Judgement based solely on body or looks is superficial, BUT insofar as attraction is concerned looks matter, but everyone has a different opinion on what is attractive.

Funny how so many on the Right are talking about burkas and being like Muslims with the decision by Miss America to end the swimsuit competition, when many on the right simultaneously say it's a woman's fault when they are harassed for dressing "provocatively," and they should cover up and not dress as such.

You just can't make this # up.
