Police say 11-year-old Jonathan Benko was taking part in Parkland Middle School's organized walkout when he and a group of students left the designated walkout area. Police say around 10:30 Friday morning, the group crossed Loop 375 then attempted to cross it again. Benko was the last in the group to cross and was struck by a Ford F150.

Benko sustained serious injuries and was taken to UMC where he died

This is unbelievably sad

As far as I am comncerned, the school and organizers of this walkout should have been responsible for the children

Schools should be concerned with teaching children not encouraging political activism

And now an 11 year old who was supposed to be looked after by this school is dead

Parents entrusted the school to teach and keep their child safe and the school failed! Home school your children folks! I knew something like this would happen.

So what are they going to do to make sure this never happens again.

Probably the same thing they did the last time.

Tye teachers had better ways to handle their grievance. These walkouts shouldnt habe happened. All they had to do was not sign their contracts the prior year.

a civics class would better serve the youth of today than a walk out.

It's a sad situation. School is a place to learn, not protest (public schools at least). These walk outs should come with severe penalties, expulsion for students that participate, and loss of job for teachers that do.

Let's also not forget the parents. They should be teaching their kids to not get involved in these things. They need to teach them that there is a time and place for such activities, and during school isn't one of those times or places.

There should be rules against school or teacher-sanctioned activist protests using our children to make statements. Enough is enough!

The parents should sue the school district, the teacher, or the school that organized this! Now an 11-year old (just a baby really) is dead....and for what?

I agree but the problem in suing the school is it backfires on the taxpayers! Time to hold these school administrators and teachers accountable for teaching our children to be activists and make them teach our children how to be successful in the real world and not to be victims.

Hopefully this tragic incident put a end to this nonsense. I hope the school gets sued too. Schools should in no way be condoning these walkouts. schools are for education not demonstrations against constitutional rights.

I bet the guy who hit the kid was totally drunk and had a 'Make America great again' bumper sticker on his pickup truck.

... just sayin.

according to whom? Theirs no information in the posted article about why the actual incident occurred.

Though, I will say that most people tend to be capable of driving for most of their life, without hitting any little kids...

Let's not politicize a tragedy. This was a lack of supervision, not a walkout issue. This happens often, it's purely circumstantial during this walkout...
