As far as I can tell, there are only two places here where thread drift is allowed:

The Political Mud-Pit foum
The Shed threads

I think there could be advantages to combining those two concepts into an off-topic Mud-Pit forum.

I believe in thread drift as a creative endeavor. The Shed is a perfect example of how nice it can be for everyone involved.

I used to post on a forum that relied on thread drift for creative expression. Threads would often go on for weeks while taking many twists and turns. It can be an amazing and productive thing to behold when human creativity is allowed to blossom.

As we see with The Shed threads.

I don't know. It's one thing to have a political fight and bear a few teeth, but I'm not here to straight up trash people. There is no reason in a forum with hundreds of thousands of topics for members to be carrying grudges from one thread to another, only to be rewarded with a place they can really make ATS look bad.

The Mudpit is what it is because politics is close to us and affects everyone. But it is still moderated and things don't get too out of hand. If we start a forum that gets too personal we'd end up with chaos.

Creating a forum like that will only build an animosity factory that will pump its pollution to every area of the site until the whole project fails.

Look at this thread! One reply out of five so far is on-topic, and no one can reply to the off-topic posts without potentially getting a strike for an "off-topic post."

Meanwhlie, "The Shed" gets a special exclusion from any of that

That's why almost all of my threads go in the mud-pit forum. I would like to discuss other things, but the opportunity increasingly isn't there anymore.

The trolls have won as far as I'm concerned unless a solution such as what I'm proposing is adopted.

There is a discrete way to handle this. The off-topic Mud-Pit forum could only be available to members with a warning before entering.

It could be a win-win.

Thank you for an on-topic post. I feel like I should express that when only three out of eleven replies in this thread have been on-topic so far.

You got a cryptic on-topic reply in, so I will too. Here's how I feel concerning all this at the moment...

They're not the same person. However the OP has been on these forums before but this time has changed his subject matter.

You are counting the off topic posts on a thread about off topic posts.
Is that off topic?
