Exactly that is my biggest and most important question , What is the point in a Spherical earth hoax , what would be the benefit ?
What possible reason could anyone have to hoax this , and perpetuate it from the birth of the scientific revolution

WHY WHY WHY ???????

A lot of FE's are fundamental creationists that believe that we are being lied to because a FE proves we are unique and proves God etc. Hence their belief in a "Firmament" being literal. You can't argue with science and logic with such folk because they have a faith. That, and the fact that they are just plain deranged.

It would be interesting to know if our FE friend here is of that persuasion but sounds to me that he/she believes any old crap they watch on YouTube.

Ahhh right ok , but who are they to question science , if god created us and gifted us the ability to have a mind which can reason and ask questions of our world then science is as holy and divine as the god that created us !

eejits

Eejits just about sums them up. Many FE's don't actually believe in it, they just like to argue and troll.

Then there are those that question absolutely everything they are "told" because they think that they are being lied to by TPTB, the Illuminati, Reptilian shape Shifting Lizards or whatever. Again, eejits, mostly.

This is a conspiracy site but like with all things some people go to extremes and rapidly depart from reality and common sense.

Resorting to name calling does not make either of you big or clever - in fact it just makes you incredibly immature.
Is there really any point having a discussion with an idiot? See I can't be that stupid - at least I can spell idiot.

"Eejit" is an Irish thing. There's no misspelling.

Any chance of you actually answering the simple question "Why?"

well I am quite happy to continue calling people eejits if they are quite happy to continue believing in something that has been proven wrong by multiple people throughout human history.

I'll continue calling them eejits even when they continue to stand up for it despite providing any supporting evidence , what is even funnier is that they denounce the scientific method then try and use the same method to prove the flat earth exists
so Aye if it makes me immature then aye they are eejits .

but if it makes any difference I can easily exchange eejit for the willfully ignorant , or Nyaff if you want me to use another word

No, I'm from England, not Oirish at all, at all.

"Nyaff" - allow me to translate for you. It's a Scottish informal noun meaning:-

"Idiot, ass, halfwit, nincompoop, blockhead, buffoon, dunce, dolt, ignoramus, cretin, imbecile, dullard, moron, simpleton, clod, dope, ninny etc".

Are you really having us believe that you are on the fence about FE?

I don't know if the Earth is flat but I also don't know it is a ball.
I don't know what shape the Earth is.

hehehe yeh god is a funny old git eh!

In the beginning, The Lord God Almighty, sitting on His throne on high, turned to His mate, the Archangel Gabriel and said "Gabby, today I'm going to create Scotland. I will make it a country of dark beautiful mountains, purple glens and rich green forests. I will give it clear swift flowing rivers and I will fill them with salmon. The land shall be lush and fertile, on which the people shall grow barley to brew into an amber nectar that will be much sought after the world over. Underneath the land I shall lay rich seams of coal.In the waters around the shores there will be an abundance of fish and beneath the sea bed there will be vast deposits of oil and gas". "Excuse me Sire", interrupted the Archangel Gabriel, "Don't you think you are being a bit too generous to these Scots"?"Not really", replied the Lord, "wait 'til you see the neighbours I'm giving them".
