C hinese billionaire Jack Ma says the US wasted trillions on warfare instead of investing in infrastructure.

"It's not that other countries steal jobs from you guys," Ma said. "It's your strategy. Distribute the money and things in a proper way."

He said the U.S. has wasted over $14 trillion in fighting wars over the past 30 years rather than investing in infrastructure at home.

The quote and interview is from earlier this year but still relevant in my opinion.

Something thats not said nearly enough.

And the support comes from all sides: Republican, Democrat and their propaganda outlet: the media.

Lets be honest, the warfare state in the US existed well before 9/11.

We have been bombing, attacking, invading and overthrowing nations since WW2 starting with Korea right up to current day Syria.

As Ron Paul has said repeatedly, our foreign empire and non-stop aggression will come to an end eventually, either because we come to our senses or simply because we can no longer afford the mountain of debt.

The money isn't really a 'waste' as far Big Oil is concerned.

Its a bonus they don't have to pay for conquest and subjugation of nations like Iraq. The taxpayer pays for that, then pays again for oil at the pump.

Taxes and the petro dollar keep the infrastructure from crumbling to the floor within borders. Afghan heroin, minerals, and stolen oil fund the military hobbies going on around the world. Those trillions were bought and paid for long before the U.S. decided to occupy foreign lands.

It's why gas prices spike whenever there's a significant weather and or petroleum event within the U.S., but gas prices remain steady whenever the U.S. drops bombs or sanctions on another country.

And NONE of the hundreds of countries benefit from our spending as we secure and esure global shipping and trade?

Yeah right.

The part that (even though I am a Canadian) I find sad,is that this isn't exactly news to most...this is common knowledge.
America spending tons and tons of money on foreign policy while ignoring people at home???

I view there to be only one strategic difference between the financiers of both the U.S. and China. That difference being that the U.S. financiers at least understand not to poop where one dines for food... China seemingly has no problems pooping where it eats. Aside from that... let any form of government go unchecked long enough, and tyranny of various elements set in.

There are people who think we should put MORE money into our military still. We spend more money on military than the next 10 or so countries combined and those 10 or so countries are our allies. What are we spending so much money on military for when we don't have a competitor that even comes close to us? Warmongers make money and become rich off of war so they keep war going even when unnecessary.

Our military is socialized as well, I have no choice that my taxes are going to somewhere across the ocean to kill some brown people, yet it still happens. If people want to complain about socialized medicine then they need to think about our socialized military. Why can't we put some of that money we spend on military and put it into healthcare? It would do us a lot more good than building machines and tools of death.

Good thread but Paul Craig Roberts, though he has some good ideas, won’t fess up to the fact that Ronald Reagan is one of the vital points in the destruction of this country since he started the tax cuts for the rich and it still continues today, and is one of the main reasons the country is doomed
