Death threat via Phone... What's up with that?

Yep - answered the phone last night and a very distinguished and well spoken man told me he knew who I was, where I was and he was planning to kill me.

I tried to keep him on the line asking questions and he'd have none of it.

Made the hubs pretty mad - me staying on the line and trying to get more info and the dude saying he was going to kill me.

Oh, and he didn't tell me how he was going to 'do the deed.'

And no, he wasn't drunk or on drugs - as I said - very well spoken, precise and almost...'distinguished' sounding.

So, I let the police know - just in case there's a whacko around calling peeps and doing so.

Now really, I'm not worried a bit but here's the question?

For what reason would someone do such a thing.

It wasn't a kid - wasn't like any prank call I've ever had...

Is there a reason why people do these kind of weird'o things other than to just be a weirdo?

Probably a prank call. If he had said your name or your address...

But all he said is I know who you are and where you live, right?

Meaning he doesn't know.

This is a reason among many that I always keep a home defense gun loaded and ready to go. If I were to receive a call like that I would say go ahead and try it,but don't be surprised when you leave with a few extra holes in your body.

Are you sure it wasnt a "Victim Soundboard"?

(people pranked by soundboards, recorded arguing with it, and then turned into a soundboard)

A common element is they allege you called them, and deny that they called you.

I used to get harassed by telemarketers and Indian Scammers everyday so I ended up keeping a browser window cued up with an assortment of the victim boards at the ready and would answer with them. I installed Opera browser specifically for this dedicated purpose. Twas my daily laugh. Was sad when they all quit calling because of it. LOL

Could be a scam; the less you say the better. Some of the latest scams involve scammers calling your line and recording your voice, then getting another family member, playing parts of recording so the family member will western union money to save their family member (who has not been kidnapped, just voice recorded).

This actually happened in my town.


Also could be a stalker, I don’t want to alarm you, but be aware of your surroundings at all times. Don’t know where you live, but if you have a landline with Verizon they have a trace option to trace the call. I believe it is *57. Costs about a dollar but could be worth it.

And the reason I’m sleeping well tonight, Smith and Wesson MP-40. I really take all threats seriously, too many in medicated nut jobs running around. My white German shepherd helps also! Please stay safe, we like ya a round here!

As another poster has said it could be a soundboard. 15 years ago I made some pretty hilarious calls with sound boards from Ebaums world ... I'm sure they have gotten more sophisticated since then.

Also, some kids just have what I call "radio voice"... just insanely deep voices and an ability to mimic almost and dialect.. my girlfriends voicemail sounds like a professional info commercial because of her 17 year old co worker.

Get very mean and pissed off German Shepard dogs - two of them, that bark at anything and everything. Keep your pistol loaded and if you do not believe in guns please get combat spray mace and a wrist wrap taser.

Nope - he was talking, answering questions, he was just 'letting me know' and that's the crazy part.

So 'matter of fact' a bit unnerving.

But - no worries. Just wondering why someone would do something like this?

Like is there a psychological description for someone who gets their kicks over this kind'a thing?

I guess I would look that up myself.

1. Report it to the telecoms company who may be able to trace.
2. Don't get paranoid. It's probably some nut-job with too much tome on their hands. If you live in fear, then they win.
17. Don't try to talk to these people. Just hang up. They want a response, so if you try to reason then they get it.

Is your name and phone number in the phone book?

As a woman who has for reasons me and my friends still cannot figure out aquired many dangerous stalkers over the years, I want you to take this very seriously. I hope your hubs takes this seriously as well.

I don't want you to be overcome with fear- or allow it to control you, but I really hope you take this for what it is.
Stay confident, stay aware of your surroundings, don't go out alone and if you have children don't let them out of your sight.

It's good you filed a police report please update the police should this happen again.

I can't tell you why people do this whether for pranks or reality, sometimes sick people just get it in their head that you will be the character in their life they want you to be, or you will suffer their torture and pain as well.

Wishing you well, I hope it's just a sick prank but don't put your guard down not even for a second. Pay attention to any potential cars following you to and from your daily stops. Change up your route to and from your destinations as well. Take the long way home just to be safe.

Oh and whatever you do, no matter where you are in the world, never let someone dangerous take you from Point A to Point B, you know what I mean? If you're in a public setting and someone approaches you and means you harm, fight them there. This is going to sound morbid, but if something happens to you at Point A, you have a better chance of surviving, and if not, your family has a better chance of knowing what happened to you and having closure, because if someone is willing to harm you at Point A they are certainly willing to kill you at Point B and who knows where in the hell that could be. Fight at Point A! If you have no weapon, use your nails to gouge an eye out. Jam your thumbs right in there.

Sorry I don't mean to frighten you or rile you up, just good advice my dad gave me that I always want to pass on to anyone I can.

Thank you very much for your kind response. You seem to be someone who really cares and takes time to let people know it.

I'm not afraid - no nightmares here - but I am keeping my eyes open and I'm aware and armed.

Great point about not allowing anyone to take you from point A to B! I hope more people read that part.

Maybe you can start a thread on how to stay safe in these strange days we're having.

For me - I posted not just for people to be aware - but - more, I'm trying to understand something I just don't get. It's like a completely new language I can't even understand. I mean why would someone want to cause someone else even a moment of fear doesn't compute with me at all.
