Anyone who supports Trump on this matter is missing the salient point by several parsecs. This is a staggeringly bad idea. The First Amendment is rather important. Presidents cannot shut down media outlets that are critical of their policies. This is so self-evident that surely it doesn't need to be explained?

This reminds me of something... Anyone remember when Hillary Clinton wowed to shut down Breitbart if she was elected?

wearechange.org...

Few of her supporters seemed to have a problem with that. Many seemed very happy about it, actually. Not self-evident at all to them that a president could not simply make critics go away in the very best of Orwellian tradition.

There are people on both ends of the political scale who have no understanding whatsoever of how important a free press is in a democracy. It's quite scary.

Trump tweets and the world hears it.
But his lies don't matter.
No accountability.

In other words, the truth doesn't matter. It's what you perceive the truth to be that matters.

Trump just trolled you!

No. It's what Trump says is the truth that matters.
According to Trump.

Yes, Trump is a troll. Do you think that's a good thing?

What's that saying... Don’t feed the troll, and here we are at 22 pages. haha....

It's good for debating, I do believe this is his intention. If anyone really believes Trump is going to suppress the media, I can go on for a few more pages lol....

Mission accomplished.

The government should not be allowed to revoke broadcasting licenses for something along these lines. That is a dictatorship.

It's this kind of crap that makes me awfully glad I did not vote for Trump. Much the same as I did not vote for anyone, because it was all crap for choices.

If anything should be done to CNN, it should be because what they were calling news was actually opinion. And shy of habitually misrepresenting their "facts" as news, they should not be penalized by loosing their license because the President does not like what they have to say.

Oh please stop with that crap.

It’s not a dictatorship. These networks are constantly pumping out rubbish and attempting to brainwash the public. Only this morning we have had a report on the news in the UK that the BBC have been being FOUR times the amount of remainers then brexit were on their interview programmes.

I’m all for free press as long as it’s a truthful and impartial press.

Take their licences away I say, until they can start reporting without being biased or spreading lies

Why is it only ok for trump to lie? These news networks are brainwashing the public so they should be pulled. Is trump not doing the same thing every time he speaks? He lies and that's fine.
I don't get it
Some are happy the president is trolling. This is crazy.

Didn't FOX News win a lawsuit where it fought for the right to knowingly lie on air?

Oooopsie! FAKE NEWS alert!
www.snopes.com...

So I guess they're fair and balanced after all! (They DID sue to chase down possession of that phrase, though)

Possible fake news was actually real news from FOX, but all the proven CNN/MSNBC lies are ok with you?

Believe me when I say this, liberalism is the lowest you can go. I mean, come on man.... when are you libs gonna stop crying over Trump. Will be in 2024? lol Threads like this get so old I usually pass them up, but every now and then I need a little entertainment.

Thank you for your delusional reality.

The only delusional reality is that some people truly believe that statements like these, which if acted on would be an assault on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, are admirable and represent American values and the principles on which it was founded.

That's pretty low.

Ask yourself, is it ok for the Gov to give out a License, is that constitutional?

If so, then denying the license would be too and due process would have to be followed. How right is that?

Unashamed liars are allowed. But, the people are allowed to decide if they want to license and support them accordingly IMO.They will still be able to report their fake news like the tabloid news "Inquirer". We just want have to call it 'the news" anymore, as it hasn't been for long time.

Plus, we won't be wasting time in the break room discussing what is really the tabloid news as we are now. Normally people don't mess with tabloids unless they are a wanting a laugh.

The propaganda networks should be taken off the air.
They are no longer a 'free press'. They are bought and paid for political operatives - you only need look at the presenters and journalists to see that.
As the '4th estate', rules SHOULD be in place to ensure the press and media are not infiltrated.

Your right man, the MSM has turned into a freedom-hating train wreck...

And your solution is restricting freedoms, granted by the Constitution, even further. Your logic is astounding.

NOPE,
Just why would we be licensing liars if we don't have to do so? All they have to do is keep reporting on the websites like all the others do anyway.

The problem.is treason runs all the way up.to.the supreme court. Many are those that wish to rewrite the laws in favor of the owners of corporations. On tv theres no free press just propaganda loud mouths for the few owners barely passing as pseudo news.

Elections are basically choosing where you want to be stabbed. And those whore outside the system and get elected may not have the required skills to do much different.

The President can't handle valid criticism and is a petty tyrant with a steadily worsening case of dementia.

Screw the orange buffoon!

This doesn't affect freedom in any way shape or form. What it actually does is PUNISH LIARS. Liars still have the freedom to lie, and hopefully soon they will be harshly punished for it by having their license to broadcast revoked. Trying to hide lies under the umbrella of the first amendment is the real villain harming freedom.

If NBC and others have their licenses revoked I will laugh soooooo hard and then jump for joy. Freedom from liars will win the day.

YES!

The liars are the problem. We can vet them fairly. Make a false statement, prove it true or admit it was wrong. Keep doing it, you get to move your free speech to the platform the rest of us have without a license.

I rarely check out CNN or MSNBC, though I frequent Huffpo. I go to CBC for facts and Al Jazeera English for international nuance. The Intercept gives me investigative reporting. FOX gives me gas...but it explains your President in a most lurid fashion.
