Well, it feels like 99 degrees outside today as usual. Two questions for you. Are you staying over night at a hotel near the airport? Are you at IAH - Bush Intercontinental Airport or HOU-Hobby Airport? These are on opposite sides of Houston. I live about 25 miles south of HOU.

Knowing the above will give me better ideas on what to recommend even though I don't go to Houston much.

Avoid Quanah and you'll be good whatever else you decide.

Enjoy your trip!

Westheimer rd. might offer some interesting opportunities.

Okay, I'll put my thinking cap on to see what I can come up with as in IAH area are a couple of golf courses and several sites of "adult" entertainment.

Otherwise, I would recommend the Kemah Boardwalk. for a variety of restaurants, live music, and family friendly entertainment. This is close to the NASA Johnson Space Center as well. The down side is that the drive would take over one hour and the taxi rate would be at least $120 each way.

Below is a list of things to do near IAH

National Museum of Funeral History
Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens
Old Town Spring - lots of shopping for antiques and crafts
AMC Loews Spring 10 - movie theatre
Cypress Trails - horse riding.
Old MacDonald's Farm - yes it a real animal farm
Big Texas Dance Hall & Saloon
Rusty Wallace Racing Experience

There is a variety of bars and restaurants in the area as well. I'd be happy to get you more information on the above if needed. Welcome to Houston.

Per Westheimer Rd. The main things to do if I recall correctly would be to the west of downtown Houston side. This area offers a variety of shopping, restaurants, adult clubs and such.

Eat Chimichanga.

Get in hot sauce brawl.

Find funny little cacti of the non-spined variety.

Piss off the top of The Wall (where its rumored the earth ends).

Greetings-

Find a member of the opposite sex and procreate, keep in touch and then in about 15 years cut-off ALL communication. This will give Your progeny something to do, rather than sit there on their iPhone™ (Imagine the distraction they'll be 18+ years from now..) Make it a game..

Short of that, I'd head to a casino or bar.

Stay Hydrated...

P.S. I'm off to Scotland w/My Wife in Sept. so We are kinda in the same boat. When SWMBO is off on a Castle Tour , well....

Go to the border near El Paso and wave at the nice people in Juarez. Make sure you have your brand new DEA polo shirt on.

I have been to Texas, many times...

My advice?

Get plowed at the airport bar, and catch the quickest flight out...
