Unless I am missing it somewhere in order for a newuser to sign up for ATS they MUST signup and login using a social network now. That's not such a big deal except for this small clause:

Note: AboveTopSecret.com only uses the authentication data and username, provided by the social network you select. We will never access or use any other information for any reason.

Why is it necessary to make a statement such as this? It makes me HIGHLY suspicious that in fact ATS is accessing a person's social network because this clause insinuates they have the user name and password to that users social network. WTF has happened to this place?

I think it would have been better and caused less concern if they had added "Trust us" at the end.

just hope ATS doesn't login your account and change everything to "gay".

You don't have a couple of throw away social media accounts set up? Rookie!

So does that mean if you're not a member of FB or Twitter or some other social media sight, you can't join ATS? Glad I joined 12 1/2 years ago, 'cause I couldn't now if that's the case. And I know what and who makes ATS what it is, but I like to play along anyway.

In order to harvest your organs for the alien overlords that control ATS, they need that information.

This has been asked before and I think it is a temporary thing?
Something to do with something that I don't remember.

www.abovetopsecret.com...
A thread a few days ago on this.

Around page three, I think, a mod said it was temporary...

Perhaps it is to drum up FB or Twitter action?

I dunno, I never comment on their other 'forum' type pages myself.

By using a social platform such as Google or Facebook, they are going off of the assumption that you are more likely to be a legit person, and not just a shell account used by trolls.

Google, for instance, has a login API that they are using. Believe me, it's segregated so as to prevent you from accessing anything else in the google social network. I'd imagine it's exactly the same as facebook, and the others too.

Just uninformed computer users who do not understand the greater picture.

Wait a second. You ACTUALLY believe this? Why are you on ATS?

I don't mind having to give up the kidney, but these monthly ATS rectal probes are starting to piss me off.

My God! Am I the only one to see this???? They used a comma between "username" and the word "provided" which is not necessary and does not follow the proper rules of grammar! It must be a conspiracy! Everyone run for your lives!

Hold on chief. You were the one offering some really weak copy pasta. Not me. Don't get upset if it spills in your lap.

I would not know... I do not use social networks outside of this site.

If I were ATS employee though, I'd make the ability to authenticate credentials of new accounts a requirement too. If not through social networks, through the option of email instead.

With this heated political scene these days, and the fact the MSM leeches are finding refuge in these conspiracy sites deems the authentication a good judgement call.

I know, it's impossible to stop the bleed off of MSM crumbling to stay out of these conspiracy sites. But, these sites are now the credible news, and I get that. But, the elementary debates that people fuss over here in current times is essentially like an adult day care for how one must learn to to absorb news sources. At some point in time, this site shifted from debates of 'Not In My Back Yard' to 'Don't Build Anything New Anything Around Anyone'.

I can't speak for others that have spent time here through the conspiracy years, but I always look at the date a member joined when I read their post. Sorry, but the newer the date joined... the harder it is to take what that person say to be credible. I will read it, but not give it much thought until I read a longer history of input.
