UAE to build first city on Mars by 2117

Dubai: The UAE will build the first city on Mars as part of the 2117 Mars project in collaboration with specialised international organisations and scientific institutes.

The Mars 2117 Project was announced by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces

I am not sure what to make of this. My first thought is great 'terrorists' in space since A lot of money flows through the UAE to fund terrorism around the globe.

My second thought was great a middle eastern monarchy goes to Mars WHAT can possible go wrong?

But this article and other recent articles got me to thinking.

WHO do you want to colonize space, and Mars ?

The US,China,Russia,Japan,Middle East ?

Space is big enough for everyone, and it's going to be wishful thinking to leave long time grudges here.

They will follow people there.

I want Mars to be colonized by Atheists and form the United Federation of Humans, shedding all bonds of nationality, and any misplaced loyalty to race or religion. Once their secession from Earth is complete, they can catapult this whole stupid rock into the sun, and mankind can get a do-over on this whole "advanced civilization" thing.

I think Mars has some similarities with Arrakis.

And Middle Eastern peoples, similarities with the Fremen.

Any Mars type project that is going to actually get done, is going to be a global effort IMO.

People are going to need to can their little arguments about lines in the sand and who likes who etc.

I don't think one nation or a few different companies can do this on their own.

It can be done.

A handful of trillion dollar companies and technology and derivations from it could get it done.

A joint effort would be better for long term relations your right about that.

It would take like 3 companies like Space X to all get together. The problem I think with that, is that corporations are going to want guarantees on mining rights and land ownership in space etc.

And they won't be able to do that if they don't involve world governments. Unless they build a station and go all rogue lol

Now, if we can develop new rockets that let's say, takes the trip time down to 3 or 6 months, that would just jump start the whole thing. A space race is good for America IMO.

I think that's a understatement.

A single idea with so much potential to create jobs,wealth, and transform modern civilization to unparalleled levels.

The tech and derivatives of it. Standard of livings. Medicines,etc.

World changing.

It's what happened in the 60's. Let alone convincing a whole of kids to focus on STEM for their education.

Total agreement on that front.

Even creating artificial habitats that were breathable would be a game changer here on earth. The amount of under water research we cold do for example.

If nothing else, moving us into the stars gives me some hope that we aren't a doomed species.
