I wanted something better to read than the typical media and I wanted to be able to have sane discussions with like-minded and unlike-minded individuals.

There is some corrupt junk going out there in the world and this is a place that seems to accept that fact well instead of blowing it off, at least, most of the time. Hey, I'm a skeptic at times, too. I don't believe everything I read from anywhere... but I do read with an open mind.

I hope to contribute over time some of my thoughts and knowledge to benefit the community to the best of my ability.

You will find off the wall behaviors here too... it can be both a positive and negative experience at the same time. I tend to avoid the name callers around here... once they start pointing fingers, they lose my ability to validate their words. Maybe you'll find success in doing the same?

On topic, welcome sixteen. I too am recent here. It is indeed a large place with a very eclectic population. In any such there are bullies and idiots,some more uncouth than others. I am resolved that I will not interact except with sincere and respectful people. Idiots and trolls will be ignored completely. Shunning works well for the Amish. Should you find yourself embroiled with such internet pests, feel free to join me in a grassroots movement to reclaim intelligent discourse.
