Does seem kind of strange that anyone would want to ride a motorcycle to Washington DC in January. There could be a snow or ice storm. From what I read there are going to be some people there helping out if there is chaos, but I doubt if there will be all of those bikes. If they do come on bikes, I bet they will be froze stiff when they get there. Not too smart.

From what I have read, there are going to be quite a few from this group there. It is not going to be totally fake.

Bikers are unique hobbyists! This weekend is going to be in the 50's here in my area of Michigan. I can only imagine it is much warmer down south. Bikers tend to get on their bikes whenever there is sun! My husband's buddy has his leather chaps and warmer clothes always secured in his bike pack, in case it gets wet and cold. He says the cold blast is refreshing and relaxing at the same time! Enjoys it more than the heat and humid summers!

I am part of the Women's March in Washington DC the day AFTER the inauguration. We've been given a whole list of things not to bring, (editing to add that our bus captains won't let us get off the bus with these things) including
* sticks to carry signs on
* backpacks (we can carry small clear backpacks)
* camera bags
* large bags of any sort
* any type of weapon
* Mace or any type of device like that

We can carry whistles (I need to get one)
I can bring my cane to help me walk

The Women's March has a permit for up to 200,000 people. So that's up to 200,000 basically unarmed protestors.

Apart from the fact that the entire protest is nonsense, it does sound like it is being organised to be a peaceful protest, so all good.

Agree with you that everything we have heard thus far about the million woman march is a peaceful protest, that and also the fact they chose the 21st rather than inauguration day itself.

Lets hope that they are heard and respected for their worries and fears moving forward.

As a 68 year old grandmother who's just under 5'3", they will doubtless have no trouble stomping on me and my walking cane. I hope they won't break my phone, though. I rather like it.

BTW, there are reports that the videos being shown are not really videos of people riding to the Inauguration. Instead are appear to be reused video of a bike run for the Marine Toys for Tots program in Louisville, Kentucky.

My uncle rides throughout the winter. Says he needs to see his ROI. Rides to the bridge a few times each winter.

For these guys to make a long haul especially given the weather over the past week is still pretty cool.

There hasn't been enough snow lately. We all ended up selling our snowmobiles since we are lucky to get 4 weeks in the winter now, to really play! Come on climate change! Hoping Michigan will be the new Florida when we officially retire! Hahaha!

In fact, the documents for the march say specifically that we are not to start any confrontation:

However, it is very important to note that we are planning a demonstration and do not anticipate there being any negative interactions with the police. We encourage all participants to observe our principles of non-violence if they wish to participate in this march (March FAQ)

I've never been to something like this, but the planning is pretty interesting. There's over 1,000 trained marshals for the march and they've hired private security and they've been working with the police and so forth on routes and the rest.

This is the advantage of having an event organized by experienced protesters who have done this over decades. They know how to set up for a safe demonstration and what pieces need to be put into place.

...relevant to the OP... I'm not sure I see this with the biker group. I see a lot of enthusiasm, I see attempts to raise money, I see some ads (possibly not theirs) posted with scenes from other events. However, the biker group's web page and Facebook pages don't show any of the materials like we have on the Women's March webpage

Enthusiasm is great, but detail planning like that ensures that more people can come and that everything stays under control.

If you look at some of the other groups planning on protesting, you will see that they are preparing attendees on how to do a peaceful protest (where to gather, what not to carry, etc, etc.)

Occupy Inaugeration will have several days of action - Jill Stein and a bunch of folks including representatives from Standing Rock will be featured speakers

I didn't look too hard for others, but as you see, those with some experience of protest seem to have things like nonviolence training for monitors and attendees.



Bikers For Trump apparenly only has a Facebook page - and I don't see any logistics or FAQs there (though there's opportunities there to buy merchandise)
