Activists cause pink yarn shortages

I found this article hilarious -- BUT -- will note that here in Dallas I found that it IS true. My daughter and I went shopping for yarn and of the two stores that we shopped (two different Michaels stores), there were fewer than fifteen skeins left on the shelves, mostly in the thickest yarn or yarn that was actually kind of scratchy. We did find two soft skeins in a bright pink and nabbed those quickly.

Others on my Facebook feed noted the same problem. One said there wasn't any in her Houston neighborhood; one in Portland reported the same. Someone else who was planning a baby blanket said she'd have to wait since her yarn supply store didn't have any pink.

Pink Yarn Shortages

Turns out that a lot of people (mostly women, but some men) are knitting hats for activists involved in Trump protests around the nation (and in particular for those going to Washington DC for the march the day after Inauguration.) Apparently a skilled knitter (like my daughter) can turn one out in a day. So I suspect a lot of them will turn up and be passed around next weekend.

Good for them.

Where some will mock and ridicule I respect their approach to a peaceful "protest," if you will.

Last report I heard were there was 3500 signed up to protest the inauguration and try and shut the roads of D.C. down. Yep sounds peaceful to me..If the police start busting heads to open the public roads they may need those soft knitted head covers.

Has nothing to do with topic.

I don't care what imaginary report you're referring to that has nothing to do with OP. If you'd like to discuss that report create a relevant thread on that, or stay on topic.

I wonder how many folks I would trigger by wearing a knitted cap.

Pampered, Pink, Pissed, Pimped and Punked for Trump. It's like a John Waters movie come to life.

Jaine was very eager to forget all this, it got a bit stressful for her. I tried to tell her that not everyone who had her under surveillance was against her, but that seemed to freak her out even more.

Everything in moderation.

Some, but not all. We may see a lot more knitting if these rallies continue. If you have stocks in a pink yarn company, it might be a good time to hold on to it.

Hadn't heard of it, and yes I can see that a rally would drive anyone to a heart attack. The women's rally has a number of people as head organizers... I'm not sure how the full event is being coordinated but it does appear to be well coordinated. The knitting bit... maybe not so much.

I hope there are as many who want a hat as hats knitted by these kind people who wanted to make a statement but could not go. In a sense, most hats will be "two spirit" - the spirit of the one there and the spirit of the knitter.

I don't get it, why pink yarn?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

My guess: pink is a symbol of femininity (niceness, tenderness?) and it's supposed to mentally evoke the opposing concepst (masculinity = meanness?). Just a guess. Call me triggered. So triggered. Off to start day.

I don't see the problem. If pink isn't available, why not wear red, which is close enough?
After all, red is the "socialist" colour, isn't it?
No, wait a minute- I've just remembered- Americans do their political colours the wrong way round. Never mind, carry on.
