Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma had a meeting with Trump, they talked about 1 million jobs to be created.

www.cnbc.com... l
President-elect Donald Trump said he had a "great meeting" with Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma on Monday, when they discussed 1 million new U.S. jobs.

Ma said the garments, wine and fruit will be the focus of trade between America and Asia.

Ma said that Alibaba's expansion would focus on products like garments, wine and fruits, with a special focus on trade between the American midwest and southeast Asia.

"We're focused on small business," Ma told reporters. "We specifically talked about ... supporting 1 million small businesses, especially in the Midwest of America. Small businesses on the platform selling products — agriculture products and America services — to China and Asia, because we're pretty big in Asia."

How those jobs are created is unclear, but the tome frame is 5 years. Ma also said there would be a focus on small business.

Where those jobs would come from is unclear. While an Alibaba spokesperson told CNBC before the meeting that the Chinese online retail giant company would create 1 million jobs over five years, Ma's comments focused on supporting small businesses.

The reason you don't know how they are going to do it, because they are not talking policy. They are talking Trump picking winners and losers. Who can buy and sell.

I feel like 200,000 jobs a year is very optimistic. The reason Alibaba is so successful in China is because there is no Amazon.

Let's assume they're able to hit their desired 1,000,000 jobs over five years total. That would be a huge hit against Amazon. What happens to the workers Amazon has to lay off due to loss of market share? In other words what is the actual net gain of jobs they project.

And then of course there's the fact that Trump promised to bring back jobs to America. Where are most of the products bought on Alibaba coming from? China. Where do those taxes go? China.

On the other hand, where does Amazon's taxes go? The US.

This is the exact kind of deal Trump campaigned against. Now that his name is attached to it his followers will praise him.

This is terrible news. Trump is going to ruin everything Barack has worked so hard for. It was bad enough when Putin attacked ISIS. All the financial support Barack gave to ISIS down the drain

The article says Ma wants to create a million SMALL BUSINESSES , that means more than a million jobs. It means a few million jobs, with workers paying taxes, and buisness owners paying buisness taxes. Small buisness loans, more people paying for insurance, employment up- that's stuff that actually helps. A few thousand overworked amazon employees might actually not HAVE to work mandatory overtime. My brother in law hasn't had a day off in 2 months guess where he works? Amazon. All these happening would be fantastic for millions of people who need jobs. Not to mention the economy. It would also help trade relations with china, which are very one sided right now. How is any of this happening a bad thing?

Trump's protestations of China stop at America's borders apparently. So now Trump doesn't care about having Americans deal with a company accused of counterfeits and piracy?

Nope to all. Well, it would be nice to help open up more American goods to China. Ma has his way of doing this. If he can make it as easy for Americans to ship American made goods to China as it is easy to sell Chinese made goods in America, then I am all for it. This globalization of trade, however, does come with its pitfalls, such as counterfeiting and piracy. Ma had better be on our side and not pay lip service to counterfeiting or piracy. Seller beware.

Globalization needs trade agreements and rules.

This is the point. A lot of questions. I thought we wanted open trade deals not closed door ones between CEO's.

I think what Ma has in mind is being the portal for American goods to enter China. His companies will be the Chinese Amazon and Chinese Ebay. Are Amazon and Ebay allowed to do business in China? I don't know. The bad part for Amazon and Ebay would be if Ma's businesses allow for Chinese goods to flow into America, unless Trump has his tariff. Interesting.

Any pres has closed door meetings, I have a feeling Trump's personal mission is jobs. They are not going to have a press conference with the info that is being given and favors being done.

It's a little ironic, when looks at Chinese and Japanese investors seeing financial opportunities in the U.S. due to the Administration change, when so few years/decades ago, it was the other way around.
