The old joke used to be: if sheep could cook - women would be in trouble...

Sam Kinison said he was just waiting for the Ronco Pocket P***y. "Number one with truckers. Just plug that baby in and ride that ride with a smile. It doesn't bitch. It likes your friends. It doesn't care if you come home late at night. It doesn't ask where you've been. Its Ronco's Pocket P***y."

What guy wouldn't mind coming home after a long day at work, slamming down a six pack and hopping in bed with a reasonable facsimile of Taylor Swift, or Emma Watson, or whomever the girl of the day is. With technology advancing as it is, I would think this area will get its fair share of attention sooner or later. Though with some of the more realistic dolls in the $5-$10k range already I wonder how many average guys could afford one with AI. But honestly, is intelligence, real or artificial, really what the consumer in this product line is looking for?

Of course, this would make tech support a hell of a lot more interesting...

I am pro-sex industry in general so I support the technological expansion of it for several reasons (many of those reasons are actually beneficial to live, non-AI sex workers). But I don't think it will impact population. The cost and convenience of having "sex robots" would never be as cheap nor as convenient as common birth control.

In other words, if a person has difficulty procuring common birth control methods, they will be even less likely to have the resources for a sex robot.

I don't think that birth control costs figure into the grand scheme of things when you do a cost analysis of how much you actually spend on your significant other when in a relationship.

The "cost and convenience" of a sex robot may very well be cheaper, in the long run.

Just sayin...

I think not...but definitely would be interesting to see if couples will buy one for a third party contribution during playtime in bedroom...so who knows really

That is an excellent point. I wasn't thinking of sex-bots as being a thing instead of a relationship. I was thinking more along the lines of casual dating. Yeah, actual relationships are spendy for everybody.

Has anyone been watching humans? I wouldn't mind an Anita bot.

I thought about this. People might not accept them unless they became so realistic that they couldn't tell them apart from real people. If robots become that advanced, they might become sentient and demand human rights and then we might be back where we started at except that robots as a new species might behave logically unless they get programmed to behave otherwise. If robots become as advanced as with the cylons in Battle Star Galactica, then you won't be able to tell the difference between robots and humans if they are designed like humans. If extremely advanced female robots also start storing eggs or develop a way to procreate with human sperm, then no, population would not be reduced at all if there are not sufficient controls. Plus, poor people around the world tend to not have access to advanced tech unless it becomes super cheap.

What sort of scares me is the possibility the human race could become a race of cyborgs in the future blending tech with the human body. If we all become more robotic in the future then the sex act might be thought of more like just another biological function like when people use the bathroom. I'm uncomfortable with the thought that people in the future might feel compelled to accept tech implants in the future in their brain or body just to keep or get a job due to competition from everyone else who already got implanted. We could lose what makes us feel human. If the sex act becomes a simple business decision to create offspring and is no longer enjoyed due to all the implants, then we will have lost something. We will be the robots trying to comprehend why humans in the early part of the century acted so irrational when it comes to a biological function and wonder why it was discussed so much more than other biological functions.

Funny... my wife and I were discussing the topic (she was reading over my shoulder) and she thought it would be a perfect couple's companion with the right accessories.

Maybe more of a market than I thought!

As long as they're not as boring as Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man, I think most people would be okay with whatever.

My luck, even the robot would reject me.
But seriously, I don't think it will lessen the number of ppl in relationships or marriages. I think it will just expand the field of self stimulation/gratification (know what I mean). If ur wife or husband isn't into it tonight, boot up the old laptop will be replaced with charge the old sex bot. There will be some who will form lasting emotional bonds with their robot, but that honestly occurred today with inanimate things. The oxytocin and other chemicals that trigger during sex or when in love do not necessarily trigger during solo mas... the pheromones that make us attracted to one another are comparable to scent and smell, robots won't smell like a living partner. Face it, biology is basically dictating our sex lives and steering the relationship ship whether we like to admit it or not. Masturb... isn't a replacement for feelings and emotions of love and partnership. So, in conclusion, nothing will change. If condoms didn't slow down the baby rate, then sex bots won't either, sadly, because there are already way to many ppl on this world and to breed above ur means is just as wrong and thoughtless as littering. Sorry breeders.

I predict that once realistic looking robots start replacing human intimacy and possibly doing it better we are in for some social changes our civilization has never experienced before.
I think in the distant future it will definitely effect population growth if it is a common thing which I predict it will.

Whatever happened to love? They say the best sex is with someone you love.

I don't think the sexual deviant will be happy with a robot. The rapist wants power over another human being and the paedophile will want real children.

I can't imagine someone wanting to have sex with a machine and yet on this thread there appears to be some that do. I never watch porn and the idea of sex toys is alien to me. There is something seedy about that whole scenario.

Having said that...I do feel sorry for those forced into prostitution whatever the circumstance.

THIS...

Socially in the distant future 70+years I think a human will be hard pressed to compete with a robot that is programmed for sexual activity and intimacy.

A droid will offer exacting standard that may well be past what a actual human can offer, how many people have stated that their partners turned into ungrateful slobs after a period of time, with a droid no such issues and with updates you can have a "partner" that could change their approach at the flick of a switch..

Fancy a south east Asian experience? we have a droid for that, kinky Latino midget? yep the same, the scope is endless unlike what the average person will put up with now which by reading forum threads is a boring sexless marriage of misery. Not all granted but the web is overrun with these stories..

I would have said a few years ago that it would be a male dominated market but I am not so sure of that angle now, I think women would be far more open to a droid partner as the social acceptance of such things change, the third party aspect was also something that I had thought about and it may well be where the biggest market share will come from, couples that want to experiment without the issues of a person being involved...

I would like to see a true poll for the percentage that would actual have sexual contact with a A.I droid, I do not mean some crappy sex doll but a full on 100 year in the future unit that offers everything and more in the sack..

It goes without saying these droids are at the very being of their existance and yet people are already openly saying they would be happy to use one, I think mankind is in for some major changes down the line...

Crikey! Sex-bots?
The march of technology really is something, ain't it?
I remember when a box of Kleenex and a well thumbed Copy of Razzle sufficed.

I can imagine corporations seeing an opening (pun intended) and switching from arms to sex-bots if it's gonna become profitable. Kinda "make love, not war" being the next marketing slogan. Maybe Lockheed Martin will build a super deluxe one that is supposed to do everything (but in reality does none of it well) and costs a fortune!

I've thought about this o a few ocassions... it's coming (excuse the pun).

I think A.I have already been released into the public domain and people havn't noticed. I've seen women on vivastreet and backpage who look just like A.I, all perfectely shaped and something about their faces that look A.I-ish.

There's also been dildos and sex machines for women for ages now.. just type a few words into your browser and you'll see what I mean.

In the future, we will be able to reproduce with the simulacra, and the offspring will be almost immortal biomechanical beings.

Once the ladies have their sexbot, actual men will be shunted into work camps, to make more bots and repair those the ladies have abused, (worn out) be careful what you wish for...

Why have sex robots when you have plenty of real humans who are willing to offer their services?

Just legalize it.

----

BTW, you don't need sex robots to lower the population, the economy is doing it for us.

Village robot???? No, no and no again.
Where can I get one (cheap of course) but don't tell the wife (or could it be considered cheating?) and where could I hide it without her finding it. I want a female one only. Whoops, I hope that isn't politically incorrect.
