Have you evaluated the legal document at the courthouse? The paper you are given with the feetprints isn't a birth certificate.

My original birth certificate is hand written, interestingly enough most of my immediate family (brothers) is in capitol letters and printed... My mother's I noticed the other day is written in pencil.

Most old certificates seem to be written here in the UK.
