And before you bash the source, think about it first. I think a lot of us already know it's true.

The Chinese food production industry is one of the world's least-regulated and most corrupt, as has repeatedly been proven time and again. Now, it appears, there is no trusting anything that comes from China marked "organic." Natural Health 365 reports that several foods within the country are so contaminated that Chinese citizens don't trust them.

What's more, the countries that import these tainted foods are putting their citizens at risk. U.S. Customs personnel often turn away food shipments from China because they contain unsavory additives and drug residues, are mislabeled, or are just generally filthy. Some Chinese food exporters have responded by labeling their products "organic," though they are far from it.

'Dirty water' is all there is The report noted further: "This is reality – all of China's grains, vegetables and fruits are irrigated with untreated industrial wastewater. The Yellow River, which is considered unusable, supports major food producing areas in the northeast provinces." Many Chinese farmers won't even eat the food they produce, if you can believe that. That's because it's clear that China's water pollution issues are so pronounced that it threatens the country's entire food supply.

I don't know about anyone else, but this is disgusting.

Chicken: Poultry produced in China is very often plagued with illnesses like avian flu.

Apples and apple juice: Only recently has the U.S. moved to allow the importation of Chinese apples, though American producers grow plenty for the country and the world.

Rice: Though this is a staple in China and much of the rice in the U.S. comes from there, some of it has been found to be made of resin and potato.

Mushrooms: Some 34 percent of processed mushrooms come from China.

Salt: Some salt produced in China for industrial uses has made its way to American dinner tables.

Black pepper: One Chinese vendor was trying to pass off mud flakes as pepper.

Green peas: Phony peas have been found in China made of soy, green dye and other questionable substances.

Garlic: About one-third of all garlic in the U.S. comes from China.

So what would you do? Why are these people getting away with selling absolute crap to Americans? Why is the corrupt Gov't letting them get away with it?

First it was poison in the Dog food, then toys with toxic and hallucinogenic coatings. Now it is being snuck in and we are eating it.
Capitalism at it's worst. With this style of capitalism I can see the saying: If a capitalist was to be hung, he would try to sell you the rope.

I live here in Asia and I can tell you that the above is total BS. Chinese food products are among the safest to eat in the world. If you doubt my word, well that's tough. Look, I only said that statement to back you up and here is why. It is true that I do live here in Asia, and I say this first hand, the wealthy in China and Hong Kong go to import stores to buy their food. (At least most of it, including meats and fish, but they also know that chicken from Brazil is not really fit for consumption, yet it is sold everywhere here in Asia, including Japan, which have/had tough food laws.
Anyway, for those reading this, PLEASE do not buy can fruit in which you have to use the can opener to open the lid. Remember the toy scare of yesteryear from toys from China. Also the dog food from China. SIMPLY put, the wealthy of China when shopping goes to the international food courts and stores. And me too!

To the thread poster, thanks for posting your thread.

Also, for whatever sake, make sure the honey that is serve as maple flavoring at your local pancake shops doesn't come from China.

I was talking to a man from China a couple of months ago and he told me some crazy stories. He said when they had the world summit there recently they shutdown all the plants for a couple of weeks in the city because the smog was so bad. They didn't want the eyesore. After everyone left game on.

I then asked him if it was true that half the country could not speak to the other half and he said yes. The dialects are not similar. It would be like someone from Fla going to Oregon and they could not understand each other. Just a strange place with almost no regulations.

One of my best friends lives in China and so i think what you just said is total BS. You can eat the food there all you like, just don't send it to my Country and expect people to eat that crap. It's been long known how bad the food is, hell they eat cats and dogs, so don't tell me it's not happening. You're living in a dream world and probably brainwashed by your own Government to believe they would never double cross you.

Sure the Rich get all the good stuff while more than 75% of the Chinese Population along with Other Countries that buy that rubbish can't afford. That makes the article false? I don't think buddy.

Nothing consumable should be from China. they are so off the charts in regards of pollution and just toxic atmosphere that eating is a risk.
That is what their government needs to be focused on, not clamping down on internet and entertainment..making their country better.

Anyhow, so its possible that there is food being shipped here that has no regulations, but the problem is, any company that would risk having tainted chinese products is putting themselves at a huge risk, so I am not overly worried so long as you go with reputable labels.

I would question why our government lets them get away with it. The Chinese can produce food, but our Federal food agencies are supposed to do their job and make sure it is safe.

I especially like the food from china that makes you guess what it is..is it beef? maybe a cat? nope..its just a giant cluster of bacteria with a hardened shell. yay

If you doubt my word, well that's tough.

Tough is a word of course. another more fitting word is...sane

the wealthy in China and Hong Kong go to import stores to buy their food.

Yes, chinese food is the best on earth...so long as its a import from anywhere but china. lol

Not sure if I want to ask.
..is it floor cleaner?

Thank god for regulations and our alphabet agencies, amirite.

like..seriously..this is why these agencys exist. whenever anyone discusses shutting down things like the FDA, I think those people should be required to go to China and eat street food for a month. Come back with a new perspective (and probably a upcoming hospital bill)

Agreed, the toxic smog in China is so bad you can't see the skyline at all.
Then you've got people wearing masks so they can breathe.

These are photo's of just how bad the skyline is in the Cities.
They added giant screens so people could see the sun and the blue sky.

Not shutdown the FDA, just cutback on some of the stupid regulations. Like buying organic food from the Amish in PA. Those people were selling milk forever and nobody ever got sick. They made them stop selling it. Just label it unpasteurized and if someone wants to buy it that is their business if they are aware of the risk just like tobacco.
FDA put all kinds of regulations on them and there was never a problem. It's some of the most wholesome food on the planet.

Their rulings on who can buy what from where is nothing short of Consumer Control. Adults should be able to eat drink or smoke whatever the like without the approval of their rulers.

Gutter oil (Chinese: 地沟油; pinyin: dìgōu yóu, or 餿水油; sōushuǐ yóu) is a term used in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to describe illicit cooking oil which has been recycled from waste oil collected from sources such as restaurant fryers, sewer drains, grease traps and slaughterhouse waste.

Gutter oil

That haunts my nightmares. I try not to eat Chinese.

real simple solution: dont buy food items from china.

I live in germany and supposedly they have very strict import guidelines. Do i care? No. I always look to see where things are grown and there are a few countries, including china, that i will not buy from.

I bought a can of pink salmon that was from China.
It smelled horrible. It was a gray color.
I don't know what it tasted like.
I wasn't that brave.
