The reason this day is around is because of bi erasure. Even (especially) in LGBT communities, many don't believe it truly exists and that bisexual folks just need to "pick a side". I've faced that accusation myself and it's frustrating. So this isn't so much a (gasp!) SJW thing as it is an educational type of opportunity to remind people that it's a thing.

Just like with gender, sexuality is often scrutinized if it doesn't fit into the accepted binary. It's weird but a whole lot of people still have hang-ups about how other people are wired.
