CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney said officers gave 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott multiple warnings to drop a handgun before fatally shooting him. During a news conference Wednesday morning, Putney said officers were searching for a different suspect at a northeast Charlotte apartment complex Tuesday when they saw Scott exit a vehicle with a handgun. Putney said the officers told Scott to drop the gun, but he got out of the vehicle a second time still carrying the firearm. Putney said officers shot Scott because he posed a threat. Officers requested medical help and performed CPR on Scott soon after the shooting, Putney said. "It's time to change the narrative, because I can tell you from the facts that the story's a little bit different as to how it's been portrayed so far, especially through social media," he said. As suspected, there is more to this story than initially reported. The cop who shot the suspect was not wearing a body camera, but others were, so there should be ample evidence of what the police are stating. If not, and it shows something different, then the truth of that will also be known. But this is another reminder of why it's paramount to not let knee jerk reactions dictate the way you deal with a situation. Find the facts, then, if required, form the lynch mob. But acting like a bonehead and jumping to conclusions becasue you want the narrative to go your way, again proves to be fruitless.

Rather than rail on about how corrupt cops are, say a prayer for the family of the man who was killed, and hope that enough people will learn what not to do during an encounter with the police so we can not have anymore of these incidents. Again, should more evidence come out that this was not a justified shooting, then outrage is appropriate. But the facts as the are now, don't justify that.

There always is. Except , certain media and unlearned folks have to jump in with their contorted views first. Makes for a better headline.

This goes back to the protesters and BLM not wanting equality but supremacy. They don't want the rule of law to apply to them.

If you brandish a gun and cops tell you to put it down, put the damn thing down. If you're a legal carrier of that gun, you'll then work it out. Instead, BLM and the protesters seem to believe you can ignore cops while brandishing a gun and they shouldn't do anything.

That is until they see someone outside their home with a gun, at which point they'll call the cops and expect the cops to confront the individual.

Not only for a better headline, but also as justification for looting, rioting, arson, stealing, and doing whatever you want with no fear of being arrested. It's the inmates running the show, all they need is a justification now. And these shootings, regardless of facts, are the thing they need knowing full well the police will hang back, and lets them rant and rave.

IF they really wanted not to be killed by police, they would watch, learn, and follow Chris Rock's very sound advice.

BLM would have you think blacks are incapable of crime.

What else is new?

The didindunuffin crowd is getting really desperate. They are doing the black community no favors by constantly crying wolf everytime police are forced to shoot someone.

While there are always cases of police misconduct, the odds of police wantonly just shooting black men are basically nil. These protests may it that much harder to prove legitimate cases of racism and why no one takes the movement serious.

Sort of like you have without knowing the facts? It goes both ways, eh?

He was challenged because he had a weapon, the police were looking for someone else at the time.

As for knee jerk reactions, it seems the police are very good at that themselves, as in the case of Terence Crutcher who 'put his hand in a car window'.....that was closed.

I think the point more is that crimes shouldn't lead to death at the hands of the police.
Well that is what it started as, I don't disagree that there are elements, and possibly a majority, that seem to act as if there was no wrong doing to being with.

To whom are you referring to when you said, "the cracker who packaged it"? Just want to know the facts, and not assume.

An interesting read on issue of body cams becoming mandatory:
Constitution Project
I hope they work out the logistic and privacy issues because I feel that mandatory cameras would help this situation and all involved.

Not to worry...I'm not referring to you, who posted it. I'm referring to whoever added the awkward postscript.

Thanks for clarifying. I found that video not only sarcastically funny, but also deftly gets the important subtext across that you should avoid escalating a situation yourself. That applies to any situation, and especially when you are at a disadvantage at the time.

The shooting was cost effictive in the end. Less than prison. Insurance will cover the damages tourism will suffer for a while.

The funniest part of this video is the fact that the cracker who packaged it:
a) didn't catch Rock's irony and
b) in his little passive/aggressive epilogue, finds it important to talk about MLK's eels being different from today's Black activists', thus proving himself...
c) an Ignorant Cracker.

"Hey, I'm no racist, but..." LOL

How do you know the race of the person who "packaged" it?

Pretty racist to assume a black person or a person of any other race did not post it.

The words of Martin Luther King make you feel awkward?

That seems kind of racist.

So they shoot to kill then perform CPR? Does anyone else see a bit of a logical fallacy here?

Why not shoot them in the stomach and legs? Why go for a kill shot right away?

BLM are just racist thugs. It doesn't even matter if the police officer is white or not (the officer was black in this case), or if the shooting is justified or not (it obviously was in this case). It's an excuse to vandalize and steal. The details are ultimately irrelevant.

BTW, it seems like the Nation of Islam is one of the biggest supporters of BLM. There certainly seems to be a synergy between BLM and the "blue-eyed devils" tripe you hear from the NoI.
