...[SNIPPED FOR BREVITY ONLY]---
The police dep't. should be reflective of the people they serve. If the community is 40% black then the PD should be 40% black; 30% Filipino-30% Filipino...

That in itself is a racially biased statement actually. Why does the color of ones skin have anything to do with their effectiveness or ability as a police officer (or any job for that matter)? So, it would be OK with you that a known LEO with prior charges for harassment, physical violence (or worse) would be better served being posted in a hot spot area based upon his/her skin color than someone that is well trained, seasoned, and has proven restraint because the color of his/her skin is different?

See, the color of a person's skin should have NOTHING to do with their innate ability to perform in their job. Anyone that advocates for using skin color as a primary motivator for selection is making a racial recommendation....and is inherently racially motivated.

Like it or not, that is how your "solution" sounds to me. Frankly, we have enough of that sort of thing already, don't you think?

If its legal to open carry.. absolutely I have no problem with it...

I just hope they are ready... cause rightly or wrongly if one of their people makes a mistake while open carrying they will get hammered hard.

Not necessarily into the convention itself, but if the law says they can open carry on the surrounding (public) premises, that's the bottom line.

It doesn't matter how you feel about it.

The event organizers are also within their rights to ASK the attendees to either not carry firearms into the venue, or provide the ability (and very secure) to check their firearms at the door upon entry. That does not infringe, since it is a private organization making the request and not the U.S. government.

See, the 2nd Amendment protects the citizenry from the GOVERNMENT infringement....not private organizations.

This should get new gun control measures passed quickly.

It did when the original Black Panthers were arming themselves:

The Mulford Act was a 1967 California bill that repealed a law allowing public carrying of loaded firearms. Named after Republican assemblyman Don Mulford, the bill was crafted in response to members of the Black Panther Party who were conducting armed patrols of Oakland neighborhoods while they were conducting what would later be termed copwatching.

Wikipedia

So black people were arming themselves and "cop watching" and ended up getting open carry banned in California. That doesn't sound racially motivated to me...

If a bunch of white guys started arming themselves and say, took over a wildlife refuge in Oregon and occupied it for weeks ... I wonder if they'd ban public open carry of weapons? Oh. Wait.

Ironic isn't it?

And, if they (as legal U.S. citizens) feel they will be in fear of their lives by attending with so many LEO and NatGuard planned to be there (very armed, more firepower than a citizen is allowed), they have the RIGHT to legally carry on public property in defense of their lives.

Frankly, I find it makes perfect sense.

I try to keep feelings out of it.....even though my own son will be outside the building patrolling the streets with a lousy 9mm.

Now if thats the bottom line know it all, and the folks at the RNC are being told not to bring their weapons ect why do the Racist Panthers want to show up waving guns around? Nice place to start a race war?

In fact how about the Ohio Militia showing up to do patrols, bearing weapons ect.

Quite the non-sequitor post IMO. Do you have anything other than cutesy and flippant responses?

TO be clear I do NOT support the NBPP policies. I do support their 2nd Amendment right to defend themselves with a firearm if it is legal for them to do so.

However, please show me where is is stated they are going to be "waving guns around"? Open carrying is NOT, repeat NOT the same as "waving guns around". Legally, it only means you do not have to conceal your firearm. Anyone "waving" a gun is breaking the law by BRANDISHING a weapon. That is still illegal...regardless of your uninformed opinion. That is all hyperbole to evoke an emotional response. I am surprised you left out "it's for the children" or something to that effect as well.

You mean "wav'in dem guns around" don't you. They need to go home. Their statement of being there in numbers armed is provocative and an extension of their desire for race war.

That is *into* the convention itself, yes? Therefore, convention rules. If they want to attend, they cannot bring weapons.

why do the Racist Panthers want to show up waving guns around?

Um, because it's their....right? Just like anyone else who wants to open carry on public premises outside the convention, if the law says as much.

Because you think they are a group that shouldn't open carry according to law because you find them racist is not relevant.

Hopefully there will not be too much violence.

That is still their RIGHT according to law.

Or should rights only apply selectively to certain groups?

Why are you denigrating the conversation with derogatory remarks in a stylized bit of grammar? Who is saying anything like that. I am saying that if they are legally allowed to carry a firearm for self-defense, then they are well within their rights to do so, regardless of your opinion of their politics and speculation on their motives.

I fully expect the Republican convention to be a SHTF scenario.

My god people LOOK at the news just this past week, and what's happened across the entire country.

Black Panthers aren't just ANY group out there.

It's obvious. The right to open carry shouldn't apply to a group of mostly blacks one believes is "racist."

neo96, do YOU think they should have the right to open carry if legally permissible to do so?
