ETA - lots of Russians wanted to defect during that time. Each and every one who was ALLOWED to defect, went through extensive background checks and was still subject to surveillance even afterwards.

I have mixed feelings about Shoebat.

I think Shoebat has good connections and a wealth of historic understanding etc. etc. etc.

I am not so certain about the quality of his Christianity and integrity.

My roommate was the one who provided Shoebat with the information and references on historic Islam that Shoebat used in his books . . . probably the majority of that info came from my roommate. And my roommate asserted that Shoebat never so much as thanked him, much less provided him with any payment for all the effort and information.

I don't think that was remotely nice, much less authentically Christian. I've tried to reach Shoebat and to ask him to clean up his act but have not succeeded.

I just saw on the news his supposed House in Florida and I'm wondering how the hell was he paying for that House? He looked pretty young to me, so either he was sharing it with others or he was recieving funds from somewhere to pay for it or he had a very well paid job! Apparently he had another property in the area too. And he was known by the FBI believe it or not..

If one were to desire to spread terror and control populations, forcing a conversion of religion or ...whatever...

I would expect that maybe It would make more sense to disrupt something other than a gay night club.

This is either a group already in the U.S., firing for effect and observing reactions, or an isolated incident being exploited and presented as something more to measure the effect on the public by the government.

I would say that we are being influenced, via the media, to form public opinion to support sending more troops and materiel to the middle east, maybe even to influence public opinion toward reinstatement of the draft...

Seeing as nothing government or military related or oriented has been attacked.

There's lots of profit to be made by waging war when your country is the biggest armaments producer on the planet.

Wars fix economies, WW2 ended the depression back then, didn't it?.

I don't know Shoebat or anything about him. His story is a bit disingenuous from the perspective that I don't think ISIS made a TARGETED threat toward Orlando specifically. The hit list, however, has been reported through multiple sources and that is what I meant to be the real subject of this thread. In the original story that Shoebat sourced from, Stuart Kaplan indicated 3 days prior to Orlando that he was concerned it would inspire lone wolfs.

I bet by the end of the day, Omar will be termed a lone wolf....if he hasn't been already.

I agree . . . he'll likely be labeled a lone wolf . . . very . . . stupidly. It's a meaningless term in this context. ISIS has CALLED FOR thousands of lone wolves to do their thing! How alone does that make them! Sheesh. It's an ideology . . . a religion . . . a philosophy . . . a government . . . and it's tied in with macho sexual identity and a sense of worthlessness that's rife in the poverty ridden, RAD ridden cultures. It appears to me . . . and some others, IIRC . . . that the oligarchy is

1. setting Islam up to destroy all other religions . . . and then morph it into the MORE OVERTly satanic religion that it's always been as the one world religion component of the one world government

or

2. setting Islam up to fight Christianity and try and engineer the destruction of both in such a conflict. Then to raise the one world satanic religion on the ashes of that conflict.

I almost think that #1 is their preference.

That's the same argument they were making on FNC this morning when some were calling it a hate crime. They were saying that ISIS is advocating for the murder of gays and lesbians all over the globe, throwing them off buildings, executing them, etc... So they were stating this is clearly related to ISIS terrorism....not a hate crime.

Just watched Obama's address.

Sounds like the anti-gun stuff will be coming back up again from what he said.

Didn't really say all that much else other than the normal drivel.

If a guy walks into a night club to kill a whole bunch of people then I'm pretty sure he doesn't care if he himself gets killed as well.

Wouldn't it be even more dangerous to freely allow guns into a night club? Now guns means more chances of some crazy person killing people.

Hate to break your safety bubble but a lot of fringe elements in society (some more criminal, others less so) are currently carrying guns in nightclubs and you have no idea its even happening.

Im a little sick of lefties trying to make this out to be a "white man hate crime" beginning before anything was known about the event at all. Just stop. Put on that critical thinking hat for a half a second. Who regularly kills gay people? Not your political opponents. ISIS and extreme Islamist regions do. (Not all muslims certainly, but there is a section of that religion that promotes this). Your political opponents dont do anything but debate whether gay folks should have marriage licenses. I saw a foreign Muslim man traveling with his wife and infant child. She was dressed in a complete burka. Couldn't even see her eyes. She was holding the baby. TSA was trying to talk to her and the man was getting really agitated because he didn't want another male talking to his wife. Within minutes, several Officers pulled them out of line and scurried them back to a secured room.

Maybe this was something, maybe not. Who knows.... But whatever it was, they took it seriously.

To me, this isn't a Muslim vs. Christian act of terrorism or Islam vs. the West.
