Phobia means fear - Source

I am sick of these "phobia" buzz words, islamophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, homophobic... it is ridiculous, in fact it is beyond ridiculous! Arachnophobia involves primal fear! The entire idea of a phobia involves primal fear! I would be willing to bet 99 times out of 100 the person accused of insert inane pseudo phobia here has absolutely zero fear of this "phobia"! So my PC "friends", let come up with a new word shall we??? That way I can avoid having to invent a new word for hating PC ###hats!

Rant over!

An extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something:

Wrong.

Irrational is a primal state, matter of interpretation. Phobias set off fight or flight reflexes. Never met a gay that scared me because they were gay. Phobia is a BS suffix is my point.

Sure. Let's call them for what they are racists and or ignorant morons. Phobia is too nice of a word for people who are just plain old discriminators.

Yes, but phobia has the connotation of taking it that aversion to the extreme.

Were the homophobic I sometimes get accused of being, I would not be able to carry on at my job or have pleasant conversations with the lesbian couple who regularly shops at the same grocery store we use because my aversion would be too great to allow it.

I have a phobia of people who don't understand the difference between the meaning and the etymology of words. What should that be called?

Only you are taking it to that extreme.

Furthermore;

Most people that get labeled with a "phobia" are not afraid of anything.

Disagreement is NOT fear.

So the whole thing is a joke perpetrated by the political Left to create stereotypes and categories and databases.

You're what society decides.

Until you move off the grid.

While you're an ATS member you shall be known as one of our most prolific homophobes.

Tough #.

I have a special objection to "homophobe", because the element "homo" simply means "the same". So the real meaning of "homophobe" should be "fear of the same".
If they want a word for "fear of homosexuality", the correct term would be "homosexophobe". Better still, keeping the roots consistently Greek, "homoerotophobe" or "homophilophobe".

Can't be a homophobe, my best friend is bi and my bar buddies are a gay couple. They are aware that I don't approve of that lifestyle choice but get this!!! They are big boys and don't need outside approval to just be happy being themselves.

This is so true.

I coach two lesbian softball players and I treat them the same as all my other players. I don't care that they are lesbians and it has no relevance to playing softball and being part of the team.

I'm taxaphobic. Does this mean I have a medical condition that allows me to not pay my taxes? If so, sign me up! I want an official medical diagnosis for this

So you agree that the OPs premise that phobe doesn't fit is bull# too.

It takes the rational to understand.

Xuenchen, you ignored my earlier post with the true definition.
I'm not playing your partisan game.
