One month later the opposite regimen was followed. NaCl did not influence blood pressure, whereas NaHCO3 decreased systolic blood pressure (by 5 mmHg) in the hypertensive subjects. Both regimens decreased plasma renin activity in the hypertensive subjects but did not consistently influence plasma aldosterone or catecholamines.
Am surprised how many people here suffer with heat burn. . One question thug, if you just stop taking these drugs will the problem not be a lot worse.

Just read one of the studies on this and they said people who stopped using the drugs did not return to having their original reflux problem.
Just a conspiracy thought, but I never had anyone around me have acid reflux, my whole life never heard it mentioned, UNTIL the "purple pill" commercial started on TV and next thing i know my whole Family and friends all over the country complaining of acid! At the time I thought WTHP what a coincidence!

Yes fella, it would. A lot worse at that.
My wife used to be a Dr's receptionist and she said that Omeprazole was one of the highest repeat prescription requests.
Yes, I agree that most things are bad for us these days, or good for us again, then bad for us once more.

Another problem with AR is associated with the mechanical process of your stomach having a weak valve system.

Its actually a sphincter, the lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS). Acid reflux can be made worse by foods/drugs that relax the LOS, the main culprits being chocolate and nicotine.
I developed erosive reflux oesophagitis and Barrett's. The pain was debilitating with medical treatment failing. Ended up having a nissen fundoplication where they wrap the top part of you stomach around the oesophagus and stitch it to reinforce the sphincter. It cured the reflux but now I am unable to burp or vomit (side effect of the procedure). Saying that it is a small price to pay.
