Not sure about a single digital currency, but the U.S. dollar and money in electronic form have been in place for decades.

Yes, but a push for a cashless society has also been being pushed for.

Recently with more of a renewed haste.

Has been in place for the middle class given credit cards, etc. Also, consumers may have also been supporting it for years given the inconvenience of using cash for transactions involving large amounts and so forth.
