Bernie Sanders And The Myth Of White Privilege

Popular culture and mainstream media is becoming more and more biased every single day. One of the current themes is the myth of "white privilege". Bernie Sanders seems to have good intentions, but I think that his 40 years in the system has detached him from the real world for far too long to really see what is going on in American culture. I am not sure when this "white privilege" stuff started, but my experience has been that over the last five or so years it has really taken off like a rocket.

A recent portion of one of his stump speeches, Bernie Sanders said some pretty disturbing things: “When you’re white, you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto,” “You don’t know what it’s like to be poor. You don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you walk down the street or you get dragged out of a car. And I believe that as a nation in the year 2016, we must be firm in making it clear, we will end institutional racism and reform a broken criminal justice system." If you watch the video, you can see exactly where I am coming from. I have spent my life looking for this elusive white privilege , and it has never been revealed to me. I have been told that I am an oppressor, that I am part of systematic oppression, and I have been called every racial slur in the book. I have been told that I am a born racist because of the color of my skin. I have been beaten, jumped, shot at, stabbed, mugged, and overall abused by people of color. I have been jacked up by the police numerous times, even in my adult life. Two years ago I was assaulted by a policeman on Christmas day, driving home from Christmas with my in laws, while wearing business casual attire. I thought that was the last breath I would take. I am white and I am missing this privilege. I grew up poor in the ghetto, and there was no help for me. I did not get the opportunity to apply for the United Caucasian College Fund. When I had to learn to fend for myself to fix my poverty problems, I did not get a helping hand based on meeting a white quota. My first job was slinging concrete. I had to beg to get the job as a laborer with a white employer that did not want to hire me because "Mexicans work harder." It took me weeks of showing up at the yard asking for a job in order to make it happen.

Fast forward 20 years later, and all I hear now is how I am privileged, and it is absolutely disrespectful. I have had to claw and fight for every single penny I have earned in my life, with no help from the system, my "family" the "patriarchy" or anyone else. If I can make it out of the Ghetto, then so can anyone else, regardless of how much pigmentation they were born with. The media is constantly pushing this racial agenda to keep us divided, and it is working. If you believe in White Privilege or any of this other racial nonsense, then you aren't thinking critically enough.

Humanity needs to unite if we are ever going to be able to overcome the current power structure and achieve peace and prosperity. Please stop buying into this racist rhetoric.

It exist in the upper echelon of business and government no doubt, on the street its a myth. I have everything I own due to myself and hard work, I see time and time again on here the accusation but its actually racism toward the whites which is allowed. You can be as racist to a White as you want and you can go unchecked, but if its reversed the law and PC crowd comes down on you like a tonne of bricks.

I'm so over this double standard and I'm going to stand up and be proud of my skin colour, no one is going to make me feel ashamed for something I didn't do. I come online and read the PC crap shoved down our throats constantly and have had enough of it, don't try and make me sound like I'm racist when in fact you are.

I'm white and I currently live in the ghetto in order to save money. Being white gets me a lot of unnecessary attention around here at 3am when I'm walking home from work.

I'm probably the only white person who isn't a crackhead for ten city blocks. Everyone else is Mexican or South American. Across the street they sell heroin out of their house and it looks like some cartel members are selling drugs out of a taco stand that stays open until 5 am and closes until 11pn. Yeah weird hours right?

There's also always some dirtbag sitting next to his car at 711 probably selling meth or heroin.

White privileged is complete bull#. It's an excuse people use so they don't have to feel like failures.

Not me I know I made mistakes but that's why I work 12 hours a day and read and save and work my ass off to try and get ahead.

I never fell for the "white guilt" or "white privilege" crap anyway. I've never felt guilty, because I didn't do anything and I despise anyone who who says they deserve money or an apology because their relative was a slave 200 years ago.
I don't understand [ or pay attention to ] these "social justice warriors". Dear God, that just screams "Pay Attention To Me!!!, doesn't it?
Seems to be a bunch of kids who are looking to be "offended" at every chance and are the poster children for that so called "white guilt". Funny how that guilt doesn't go so far as to them giving up their Mommy and Daddy's money, the job Mommy and Daddy's influence will get them or the cars, IPhones, laptops and expensive college education Mommy and Daddy are paying for.
If you think all this "white guilt" crap is bad now, just imagine if Bernie was elected.

If a black man wears a black panthers t-shirt, he is hyp and cool, if a white man wears a white pride t-shirt, he is racist.

If there is such a thing as "white privilege" I have yet to be privy to such a phenomena, unfortunately. I certainly could use a little white (or any color for that matter) privilege. Any privilege, really. I need better internet like people in hell need AC.

White privilege is nothing more than a rationalization and justification for hatred against whites. It's a stereotype used to demonize. It's more than a little disturbing that this racist crap is coming from our universities, media and now presidential candidates.

See I disagree. People look at the racial make up in business and come to the conclusion that because 70% of the people are white in a particular job or business or whatever it might be, that it is due to racial oppression... the fact is, our job market, entertainment, political positions, reflect the demographics of our country. There is no possible way to have equal numbers of whites vs minorities when the numbers just aren't there.

When you address a statistically valid statement with anecdotal evidence, you have said NOTHING.

As an old white dude, I will state that being white has not always brought me a 'get out of jail free' card.
I have been poor and hungry, upper middle class, lower middle class and my parents never said be careful about the cops, you need to be better than everyone else, that my skin color would cause problems.

So, one question.
Would you give up that skin tone for money?

"White privilege" is another phrase for "white people". In the mouths of racist white people it is another phrase for "white supremacy". In the mouths of racist non-whites, it is another phrase for "white envy". It's racism, pure and simple.

The more I hear how awful I am and other white folks are, the more I think of taking the Milwall approach.


Their song reflects their attitude. No one likes us we don't care.

I am all for having a noble plan, but any plan that includes stealing peoples money or property without consent using violent men with guns, is one that I cannot support. If it is voluntary socialism, then that is fine. The problem with democratic socialism is that it is mob rule. If the majority decides that a horrible idea is a good idea, they get to force it on the minority using violence. The cool thing about a constitutional republic is that it is designed to protect the little guy.

How so? Take free college, who is gonna pay it? Government. How does government get its money? Taxes. When you graduate and get that job you will start paying taxes yes? So you'll be paying for that college one way of the other.

Under Bernie, it'd probably be in everyone best interest to stay poor .

I was a white track & field athlete at a major university. I ran the 100m hurdles. Anything I got out of that I darn sure earned for myself. Tell me again about "white privilege" because I was very much in the minority there.

In fact, I likely only have my degree because of what I earned on the track. My parents couldn't afford it.

Absolutely right. The belief that humans can be classified according to race, beyond perhaps descriptive purposes, is a certain stupidity, as Sanders clearly shows.
