Per this report, the U.S. is sending 12 F-15Cs to Iceland and the Netherlands with the Netherlands contingent staying until September.

A small step overall, yet longer than the token appearances by the F-22s earlier. Another little reminder to Putin his military exercises are not being ignored?

Any thoughts on this move?

Nothing to be alarmed about...
Other than wasted fuel & hours on the fighters.

Don't they post there frequently? I seem to remember a you tube video on a previous detachment from Iceland, great video btw.

Which was going to happen anyway, even if they stayed home.

True, but....
The potential for trouble is far less.

Actually, it's not. If they stayed home, they'd be pulling more Gs and putting more strain on the aircraft. In Iceland, since there's no one to play against, they'll mostly be doing rotating patrols, and some ACM against other nations, but not as much as if they were at home. And if they do intercept Russian aircraft, it's going to be exactly like if they were here in the US.

Experience is never a waste. In fact this is less a waste because they need their flight hours anyways and this has an actual use.

There is no trouble unless Russia causes it. In which case you should direct your anger in the proper direction.

Smoke and mirrors IMO. The US does not have the political capital to drag its people and/or their tax dollars into war with Russia. Russia does. The Russian people are living through some crappy times right now and they are still giving their leader the thumbs up. 80+% approval rating. Unheard of in the US or it's allies (including mine) countries.

And I think Russias military exercises are reminding the US and UK etc. that their imperialist expansionist moves are not being ignored.

I guess it depends on if your a chicken or an egg person...

More fear and loathing for the natives....lotta show but not much go.....12 F15s wouldn't last too long in heavy combat....
And yes its a collosal waste....the biggest waste in human existence.....
Theres no glory in murder for hire no matter whos doing the hiring....
Im sure Iceland is not too impressed......they know whos screwing the world up big time...their bankers got jailed...
All this posturing is simply that....posturing....really just more dick waving ....
We have to stop letting these people # with our heads.....

Yes, so true. You tend to find this is the case in all countries where the leader being voted about controls the press, the message and stifles alternative politics. When you are the only person on the ballot and the company asking the questions belongs to you, it would be a surprise if the result was anything different.

Why would a small number of F15s cause so much angst? Could it be that people are reading too much in this and over analysing because it supports their (false) belief that the US and NATO are limbering up for a show-down? Dear me.

The US fighters for Iceland are a part of Iceland Air Policing where NATO keeps some their during the spring and summer months. Since Iceland has almost no military beyond a Coast Guard. It is a regular rotation like the Baltic Air policing but normally only one nation instead of two deploy.

For Russia again it is paying for its own actions. It had NATO barely armed and barely existing with neutral states like Sweden and Finland happy to be neutral. Then Russia had to try and look tough at home and unify everybody against them. And things for Russia do not seem to have any good way to go.

Then you should not have invited us. Besides we have plenty of Dutch training here at a half dozen bases all the time.

Then stop relying on the US for a lot of your pilot training needs while your students are helping to saturate our training programs, preventing us from training our own pilots.

Tell your US government to stop handing out propaganda in the form of training foreign pilots....
Anybody can see its a form of programming/indoctrination.
The US is getting its $ worth.....in that regard....like it does with the School of the Americas...
Russia has been quietly surrounded by US bases and its got a right to be pissed off...we freaked at the missiles in Cuba....
But deploy all kinds of stuff to keep Russia behind the fence....
What if Canada or Mexico let Russia deploy anti missile defenses there?
Its getting sickening to see the blatant hypocrisy that the US constantly engages in, if they want the worlds respect they should stop their hypocritical activity and stop lying .....and stop initiating conflicts...where they have no business to do so....

Your rant is just silly.

When was the last time the US threatened to invade canada or mexico?

At worst Trump wants to build a wall. While Russia has actually invaded countries recently.

And I think your rant about foreign pilots is insulting to those pilots. They are professionals and not easily swayed.
