The National Union of Journalists has said reporters must be able to do their jobs without intimidation, after a number of reporters were threatened by criminal gangs.

Independent News and Media has confirmed a number of its journalists had received threats and said it was increasing their security, in cooperation with gardaĆ.

GardaĆ have informed some of the reporters that their safety is at risk from Dublin-based criminal gangs.

Dublin based coc aine dealers think they can decide what is said in public. There can be little doubt that some of those involved have fallen for the temptation and sampled a little too much of the poison. Now, in common with many bankers, politicians and other weak souls, they have succumbed to delusions of grandeur. This is what coc aine does to your ability to think coherently.

Just think about the essence of this story.

Someone actually thinks they can shut up Irish journalists?
It reminds me of the time a friend went to visit some junkies and found them trying to light a pile of beer cans in the fireplace.

If they think they can shut up Irish journalists they must be off their heads on drugs.

Big problems with Dublin killer gangs, they already killed a dedicated, good Dublin journalist some years ago while driving her car, and the same MO happened in Northern Ireland on a motorway, killing a prison officer, also from Eire gang related thugs.
Then a week or so ago, more internecine gang killings. People need to stand up and be counted to drive these people away for good.
Some reporting in the Irish papers is not so good, the sensationalism in them tends to glamourise these gangs, some who are connected with paramilitaries, criminals themselves, who pretend to take the high moral line. It all fecking stinks, so do they.
