The current alternative is plutocracy, the problem being the rich arnt even trickling down anymore as they've decided to off shore their wealth and Pass on tax burdens to the middle and working classes. They've given up on the game completely.

Plutocracy (from Greek πλοῦτος, ploutos, meaning "wealth", and κράτος, kratos, meaning "power, dominion, rule") or plutarchy, is a form of oligarchy and defines a society ruled or controlled by the small minority of the wealthiest citizens. The first known use of the term was in 1652.[1] Unlike systems such as democracy, capitalism, socialism or anarchism, plutocracy is not rooted in an established political philosophy. The concept of plutocracy may be advocated by the wealthy classes of a society in an indirect or surreptitious fashion, though the term itself is almost always used in a pejorative sense.[2]

I' have always hated that term it sound like when it was coined the 1% was laughting their asses off knowing well it was a double entendre.

When workers get paid it is trickle down whether you like it or not. When half the country is on welfare it has no chance to happen.

The media has more influence on a candidate's popularity than the public realize. Hillary has been their candidate from the start.

I would have written that like this myself : "The media has more influence on a candidate's popularity than the public".

@the OP. This is exactly what was done to Ron Paul twice actually. Especially the first time they were very effective with it. Now , no matter who you support or oppose we should never support actions like these.

People marching has had little effect on politics. I remember the tea party march on taxes, some half a million people marching throughout the country for whatever reason back in 2009, and it did absolutely nothing.

Sanders will get more votes if he keeps offering free things and good feelings.

That's the lure of socialism... Hiding the truth with fairy tales, euphemisms and lies...

Even though Bernie claims he is in favor of the people and wants to reign in excess capitalism, but doesn't want socialism, the fact is what he offers is socialism...

Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist...

...

Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically- to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few.

How do you "democratically" control both the economy and society?... By the state owning the means of production, and controlling society in general...

The Sanders backers are probably some of the very same people who backed Obama... They keep believing the fairy tales...

Then do it. Go out and give people money, give people jobs, pay them a good wage, be as charitable as you wish, but forcing others to do so is robbery.

Ask Gumerk how well his same claims bettered life in Venezuela, or Cuba, or the U.S.S.R., or China, or Laos, or Vietnam, or any of the other countries which claimed these same things and in the end only offered even more suffering...

A career politician is more than someone who has worked in politics for a long time, it's someone who does it for the fame and fortune and follows the money. Bernie has been anything but those things and was a working class citizen before he got into politics

You do realize that we already live in a democratic socialist society and that our founding fathers created this country with socialist ideals on mind

The founding fathers did not create this country with socialist ideals on mind... Socialism states that no person can own the means of production. The founding fathers stated that every man, and woman of course, is able to own property and land, which includes the means of production...

Socialism states that the greater good is more important than individual good. The founding fathers wrote down in the Constitution that every person has rights, and individual freedom is more important.

One thing socialists and communists continue to ignore, and deny is the fact that without individual rights being guaranteed to every person, the state can suppress minority rights. These days the minorities, which are not really minorities but the STATE claims they are, includes those Americans who believe that the Second Amendment right is very important, and it shouldn't be infringed upon.

These days the rights of criminals are more important than the rights of victims in many states. Criminals do not abide by laws and thus are always armed, yet "the State" is disarming the law abiding citizens. It is happening slowly, but it is happening. When the State outlaws the rights of individuals to own and bear arms, they are in fact disarming them.

"The people" are made up of individuals, and without individual rights being guaranteed to everyone, groups of "the people" can be suppressed in the name of "the common good". Yet socialists and communists believe that "the collective" is more important than the individual.

This country was not founded on socialist ideals... It was founded with the principle that individual rights are guaranteed to everyone by their Creator, and no government can suppress, supplant, or ban any of these individual rights.

No that could be either Communism or Fascism ,so how do you democratically control both the economy and society?
Simple by having a referee, example we have two environmental disasters right this min one a gigantic natural gas leak in California forcing an entire community to find life elsewhere, in this case they are reasonably wealthy and the other Flint Michigan where they poisoning poor kids with led, in both cases there was no referee as they cut the budget for people whose job is to REGULATE the environment and check on companies on how they produced their products and what happens to harmful by products, the same with the financial markets, pulling out all the stops for them to use YOUR savings to speculate on and when they lose their bets with YOUR money, YOU have to bail them out.
I want socialist things like my hotdog without rodents minced in with what should be beef or pork parts, I enjoy socialist things like 5 or 6 day work wk, I want socialist things like fire fighters that try to save my burning home without me having to pay them....I bet you think am kidding right??
Firefighters let home burn over $75 fee -- again

"Socialism is a variety of social and economic systems characterised by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production; as well as the political ideologies, theories, and movements that aim at their establishment."

The way I understand it is since everything is owned socially that means every single individual has the right to a piece of the means of production and the goods produced. Democratic control on said "means of production" means that said owners (the people)have the right to vote on how the aforementioned "means of production" may benefit society. In other words you pay taxes and have a say in where those taxes go.

Communism is where nothing is privately owned and the government owns everything. You won't have to pay taxes, but you also have no control over anything You seem to keep confusing the two.

In my eyes socialism gives the power to the people or society as a whole. Whereas communism gives power to an individual community and/or the government.

In socialism the greater good is society itself and no one group is better than the other. Every body has a fair chance at a great life regardless of sex, race, religion, or finances.

Lastly public schools, roads, libraries, parks, police and fire departments, the military, and every other tax funded program that is meant to benefit"society"are all socialist ideals that were supported by the founding fathers.
