It Only Took One

It only took one, only one to believe
Only took one person to believe in me.
To prove that belief is all that you need,
That you can do whatever it is you conceive.

It took only one, only one person to know,
That I had some value, that I was special.
That I could do anything if I truly believed,
It took only one, and that one person was me.

So many people doubt what another can do,
They drag you down, constantly pushing at you.
Transferring the doubt they have in themselves,
They simply refuse to believe in somebody else.

Not letting someone, be all that they can become,
Constantly keeping them pinned, under their thumb,
Afraid you might do it better than they ever did,
They hold you there, captive, your options limited.

It took me a lifetime before I came to realize,
It was me holding me down, not the other guys.
I was the one who had no confidence in me.
That I was the one who had no faith, no belief.

It only took one, only one to believe
Only took one person to believe in me.
