Saudi Arabia's foreign minister says the kingdom has severed diplomatic relations with Iran a day after a mob of angry protesters looted and burned the Saudi embassy in Tehran following the execution of a prominent Shiite cleric and 46 other prisoners on Saturday.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir announced on Sunday that all Iranian diplomats must leave Saudi Arabia within 48 hours, according to AFP.

To be honest, I didn't even know they had diplomatic ties until Iranians stormed the Saudi embassy in Iran. The division in the Middle East continues to widen, I bet the Military Industrial Complex is drooling right about now.

Ironically, both Iran and Saudi are guilty of mass execution.

I like how Saudi Arabia acts like Iran is the aggressor in this thing.

Man I'm getting tired of fighting terrorism while supporting one of the worst regimes ever to grace the earth.

We need some leaders who are willing to tackle that beast.

Honestly I dont think we could.

The public see through saudis BS now. Public support for a war would be to low and you cant fight a war without public support.

Hell our militarys would probably mutiny.

Well, if you think about it, I've been reading lately how the Saudi's aren't making as much money as they used to, you know, with falling oil prices.

A war would be just the thing.

Why?

Saudi Arabia is the source of most the ME problems and terrorism.

If they disappeared over night the world wont exactly lose much.

The house of Saudi needs to go the way of the NAZI's.....extinct.

Really wok?

Really?

I always cringe whenever I read or hear the "Wipe somebody off the map shtick"

How about both sides stick to mass killings in their own little medieval chiefdom?

The houe of Saudi has caused nothing but death and misery.

They are the core of all the problems in the ME and ISIS is based off them.

The House of Saudi needs eliminating like Hilter and wahhabism needs to go the way of NAZIism.

With multiple other wars and battles happening over the years, I won't be surprise more wars will happen in the Middle East and surrounding locations. It's sad but there's no easy or simple way to end these wars nonviolently.

The Saud family are hanging on to power by the skin of their teeth.

The Wahhabi's are more than aware of this and are waiting in the wings to seize absolute power.
If they succeed in doing so I can almost guarantee that there will be a full scale war between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Where that could lead to is anyone's guess.

I agree with this on paper, but see why others have such issues with the statement.
Because it does have really only one outcome, a huge war.

But if it could be done with out that, having Saudi not pulling the strings in the ME would be great for the entire world.

Yes, I agree that the Saud dynasty knows that any day they could fall from power; ushering in a new ear of wars for control of Muslim holy lands.

We've got Pakistan and India mixing it up...now this with S.A. and Iran...things are gearing up over there with the big players.

Iran and S.A. taking each other on...seems inevitable. Don't know how that one will shake out.

Well Saudi and Iran are as bad as each other. It's just different denominations of Islam perpetuating hatred.

There is a wider context. The Iranians are supporting the Houthi who are destablislising Yemen. The Saudi's are supprting the Yemen government in the civil war.

Oh yes, both houses have an equal amount of blood on their hands.

I"m just surprised at the action, considering Saudi Arabia routinely does executions of people for political or religious power reasons.

And typically do not care one bit about the backlash, because a large number of Western and European countries have pledged aid to them in the event of war.

Saudi Arabia basically executed that cleric because he denounced the kingdom's leadership, ie murdering protesters during the Arab Spring. Isn't that nice? Hell, we carpet bombed Libya and worked with Al Qaeda to overthrow Gaddafi for the same damn thing! But SA is our ally so they can do whatever they want without any repercussion. Do the western nations ever criticize SA? At least give us that?!
