So I was bored and cruising my usual AN sites and found this headline. What we have here is an interactive map of the US which shows the location of shootings near you.

Being Canadian it doesn't actually show mine other than ! shooting in Watertown which is approx 38 Miles away as the crow flies (Gananoque, Ontario). And several in BC which is a continent away. I don't know if this is updated regularly or at all as I know there's been a few shootings in Toronto and Montreal but they aren't posted.

Anyhow here's the link:

www.thetrace.org...

You may or may not find it interesting. Should any of you feel like taking a screen cap and posting in the thread I'm sure others will find it informative as to where/how frequent the these incidents are. I think it would give it a slightly more human feel to the OP as well. Here's a capture of mine although it geo-located to Kingston.

Interesting. Too bad it's only for the states, I'd like to see a Canadian version of this.

When my wife and I were looking to move, we had put a great deal of consideration and research through our local crime activity tracking, spotting all kinds of arrests/crimes throughout the city in the past 6 months. The place we settled in had nothing within several square kilometers. We need more information like this to be as transparent as possible, for everyone's sake

dozens shot dead per day every day, many by police

Aside from gun homicides, many decapitations, too!

Sign of Satanic times in America.. So much for war on 'terror'

I zeroed in on my area.
I noticed something about where all 8 shootings happened in my 5 mile radius.
I will not comment on the peculiarity until I check out all 8 incidents.
ETA:
5 of the 8 were teenagers. 2 of those incidents were drive-by shootings and the persons arrested for the shootings were teenagers.
7 of the 8 were in an urban area that is located in one of the poorest cities in the US.

I also noted that the article says that CDC lists say that guns are responsible for more deaths than alcohol.
If you search the term 'CDC alcohol deaths' you will find that alcohol is responsible for 88,000 deaths per year.

Nothing much here, it's pretty peaceful lately,
Just one dog shot, and a lampost wounded!

Just 2.

Both were accidental discharges. Both involved children; one fatal, one non-fatal. In both cases it was due to parents leaving loaded guns laying out in the open where children could easily reach them. That was with a one mile radius.

With a 20 mile radius it increases to 17 shootings, all but one of which was accidental discharge. The one that wasn't was a police involved shooting, where the victim was threatening others.

There have been 2 shootings within a 2-mile radius of this point in the past year, 0 fatal and 2 non-fatal. The closest shooting was 1.80 miles away.

I live in the middle of the state so, I chose the entire state as my location.
(I suppose I am bored as well!)

I was surprised at the number of "A" incidents indicating accidental shootings...
People in TN should maybe go to the range more often!

It says 381.44 miles away was the closest shooting with zero shooting within a hundred mile radius. That must be my distance from the US.
There's been a few shootings this year in Edmonton, maybe a dozen or so. Could be a few more. Crime is way up in Alberta this year....
I'm a little over an hour north from Edmonton

I just let the map take my location from my phone, there's no data on Canada.

**i googled. Closest info I could find was the 12th homicide in Edmonton happened in July. There's been a few more since then.

It depends on what you mean by "near." If you mean in our immediate area, then none. If you mean more of our region of the city, then two.

The violence ramps up in the areas of the city you would expect it to, but pretty much everyone knows to avoid those sections unless you don't have a choice.

Hmm. Too many. Way more than I thought. This is within a 15-25 mile radius. Near Atlanta, GA.

My sister lives in Manhattan. Just as I suspected, seems it might be safer or at least as safe up there.

The data for my area can't be right. I'm certainly going to look into this further.

Wow, and wherever you are at is much worse than even the worst areas of the city I live in!

That's pretty cool, thanks. There was 1 non-fatal shooting near me in the last year, and it may have been an accident as I don't recall a big commotion about any violence.

And nobody believes me when I say there are crazy people with guns everywhere around here.

I'd say crazy people are the bigger threat not the guns because I live in Kansas City. It's not like we don't have a heavily armed populace and a fully CCW one at that.

Here in B.C., lower mainland we have had some 70+ shootings with a few miles or clicks from my workplace in the last 6 months, a few deaths including one bystander and surprisingly maybe only a handful of wounded. It's an ethnic gang deal. My good friend was murdered about 4 years ago..shot in the face/throat..guess where most of these guns come from.

How is this a sign of satanic times? You do realize the world used to be a much less stable and much more violent place, do you not? Sign of the times my ass

In my town/county ? ONE fatal shooting , but not murder . Self defense, some out of state armed thief broke into the wrong country boys home .

Nice living in a small country town and/or out in the country itself away from people . We sort problems out ourselves .

2 in the last year. A third in the last 2 years.

I live in an area with next to no poverty. Even the poorest parts around my area are very nice compared to the inner city.
