Christianity wasn't the originator though.

Nope. People (probably men, mostly) were.

~Newsflash~

France on the hunt tonight. (Raids going on now) Saying they fear the terrorists have "gone dark". (But I think they said "went' dark. )

other: Ben Carson saying if elected he will reverse Obama's immigration policy re: refugees.

Phage: Be careful. If you are a smarty pants with your barber, next time he might put a hot towel over your face, then bleach your hair blonde and cut it like Donald Trump's. : O

I get my hair cut a couple of times a year and most of my hair cutters seem to turn out to be Filipino and, in all likelihood, Catholic (I don't care, or ask).

The worst they have done is cut my hair too short. Every time.

Ok. Let's look at that point.
Was Christianity ever associated with mass death?

At one time, yes: the Protestant vs Catholic wars: The Wars of Religion in France and the 30 Years War in Germany.

IS is a product of Shia vs Sunni war: the proximate cause for its rise is (no, not US) the Shia-supremacist government of Iraqi President Maliki. He undid all of the progress made in the "Anbar Awakening" which promised some self-determination to angry Sunni's in Iraq.

The top level of IS is filled with Saddam's former military & secret policemen. Religious fundamentalism gave IS the converts and the grunts, but local Sunnis with skills gave IS the power and organization to make it capable. There are plenty of groups with ideology not much different from IS, but few with its potency.

The real original cause going further back is the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

Without that, there would still be communist/socialist style hostility from many Arab states (Nasser-like), but not the vile stuff we have now.

On the upside, chaos and poverty makes it less likely that they could develop nuclear weapons.

Did Christianity destroy the world? The answer, would of course, depend upon your point of view. No?

It took at least 150 years to fully calm down.

You left out the crusades, but who's counting?

Most recently, perhaps. But it does, of course, go way, way back.

My mom used to cut my hair right up till I was about 50. Shes passed, so now I cut my own hair, and dad goes to the barber. I do love Fillipino food . Pancet is one of my favorites

Well, I don't think "The Trump" hair cut will be trending anytime soon. I think it would require Velcro.

While not as much as 30 or 40 years ago, I still have plenty of hair.
And I like it long(ish). So does my daughter.

On topic: I do not have a beard.

Debating History to me here is semi moot.

It's hard for me to see a future for the Middle East, It's hard for me to see a future for the West if this continues.

People here are treating it as a race or bias issue, terrorism, and many other things. And all I see is the Science issues and the lifestyle issues. I can not see any society that has extreme religion flourishing, I see it as a semi problem here in the USA and I see large numbers of Muslims entering the fracas in the West as devastating socially, economically and technologically.

So many aspects of this sort of struggle will seriously affect living in the modern world, it will affect education, families civil liberties, the vote in Democracies .... that's my biggest fear. Europe and in some ways America really seems to be moving Green, Progressive and open minded. Religious conservatives are the death of that, strife is the death of education at least free education.

Islam is going no where, it's doomed, fundamentalist thought is doomed you need a large body of the well educated to compete these days, religious schools don't help with that, Europe was doing great, a stable population is what is needed, this ruins that "sustainability" is lost where ever religion demands to be fruitful and multiply.

Modernity will be lost for a time... at the damn wrong time.

China will have the globe, Islam will take the West with it.

Sounds extreme, people have all sorts of ideas about right and wrong and reasons... But there is a bottom line here. 20-50 year window, China's putting out researchers, engineers, doctors to a level that is ridiculous, already burning rubber right past us as it is. Loosing the battle vs Ultra Conservative thought, Europe maybe even America being no fun, not modern... Kiss all those PHD visas goodbye..

And where the tech goes the money goes and where the tech goes the best weapons go, and he who has the most Money and the Best weapons rules the world...

I don't see any way the West with this happening if it continues unchecked wont total loose the race and from 3-d printing to AI to Space sooooooo much is changing, we will be A: Poor B: lacking in education. No matter what if this continues... It will lead to a lot of internal conflict.

China will win.

Atheist, Scientific, Modern. Huge population, racially and culturally unified. It wont end to Islam it will end to them. Multiculturalism and Religion will end up going down hard, I can't even imagine how much further in the next 20-30 years Chinese tech will out pace us with this going on as a distraction to daily life. Or how much worse g global warming and overpopulation will make the Mideast and Africa and now maybe Europe when it was so close to being stopping point..

It's not lost for the USA and a few hundred thousand people are a drop in the bucket... but I think Europe is out of the race, it will be 3rd world.

We need to Embrace the Pacific rim with open arms in America, Immigration especially and stop complaining about Mexicans this continent can be okay still... I just see no future anywhere where Religion Trumps Science and I see at some later date the Chinese would have to put a stop to it. It's their century, they made the right choices.

For me personally, this is getting real freaking serious. I was assaulted in a hotel parking lot here in Memphis but a Middle Eastern muslim sporting a security guard badge and threatened to cuff me. Told him I was checking into the hotel, then he whips out a retractable baton and getting physical. I had done absolutely nothing to provoke getting hassled. This guy detains me for a half hour in the hotel lobby and when he became distracted I bolted out the door and got the hell out of there.

I am just giving you a heads up first hand account of what's up in the midsouth. There is a huge number of muslims immigrating to Memphis, and with them coming in from New Orleans, they will be immigrating up the delta in greater numbers.

I am not saying all muslims are bad people, but it just so happens I don't know of the good muslims I would consider to be friendly. And I will just add, muslims (esp the women) drivers on the road are dangerous in vehicles. Be safe.

We aren't talking about over a half century ago, are we? But if you want to talk about the connection between Nazi Germany and Islamic fundamentalism, we can go that route - perhaps on a different thread.

I have said if I keep quiet about the blatant BS about Muslims, I would be as guilty as those who condemn an entire religion for the few.

Your talk resembles Nazi Germany..I am pretty sure it started small like your group and than escalated.

For now it is only Muslims you are after, then the blacks who have converted to it.then will be anyone related to them, then sympathizers.etc

How did you know what religion the security guy followed? Did you ask or is that a generalisation on your part?
