Actor Warren Mitchell famous for his role as " Alf Garnett " in the T.V. Series " Till Death Us Do Part " has passed away age 89.

The series began in 1966 and was so politically incorrect it would never be made today. The U.S. made their own version with the lead character named " Archie Bunker " It was quite tame in comparison.

R.I.P. " Alf "

It was controversial even at the time, and they only got away with it on the understanding that Alf Garnett's attitudes were being mocked.
There were also more traditional taboos. The story goes that the original scripts had Alf calling his wife a cow. The B.B.C. were not having that. No lady was going to be a "cow" on their programmes, not even a working-class one.
The production team were determined to find a way around this. Thus was born the iconic insult "You silly old moo!"
