There are group homes for people like him, intellectually disabled and also a sex offender.

We have plenty (though not enough) of mental institutions, they just have euphemistic names now. "Mental health Center", "Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation" rather than "Insane Asylum." My suburb of 40,000 has one, as do the suburbs bordering to the north, east and west of me.

It's interesting that the point is being made that because he has the emotional and intellectual capacity of a 10 - 12 year old boy, he is somehow naturally drawn to pornographic imagery of children of roughly that age group...i disagree.

I don't know about any of you guys and gals...but when i was 10 - 12 years old, i wanted to look at and was titillated by images of adult Women, not kids my own age.

So quite how his or anyone's mental age can be considered a reason for looking at children in a sexual way doesn't fit.

Kids, especially pubescent boys, naturally prefer to look at pornographic images of naked, fully sexually developed Women (if those Boys are heterosexual of course)..i know i and all of my friends who'd managed to find their Dad's stash of porn mags or films did, and we were around this guys mental age at the time.

Your point about lower IQ is a debatable one. Possibly it's through my complete revulsion of the subject that I may be somewhat naive, but I didn't think child porn was readily and freely available on the internet although I will concede that there is probably all sorts of seriously bad stuff available via fileshare programs. If that is the case then this individual needed a level of intelligence to actively seek out the vile stuff he wanted to see.

Lock him up and throw away the key. Even the article states he was watching young boys being RAPED. I believe I read somewhere that the stats for a pedophile being rehabilitated are worse than a drug addict. I can only imagine being an autistic pedophile would make those stats even worse.

Anywho....this one will likely never contribute anything meaningful to society, and hasn't for at least 24 years so far....

My son has Asperger's Syndrome (high-functioning autism), and he's fully capable at 12 years old to know that looking at things like that on the internet (or any other means of viewing them) is wrong.

Yes, they lag well behind their peers in many respects--sexual maturity being one of them--but that doesn't discount their ability to know that viewing images like this is wrong. In fact, my son is fully capable of understanding what laws are and that they should not be broken.

Now, it's possible that this individual is not as highly functioning as the writer claims, but there's a difference in viewing images of young kids naked and having "computers full of the disgusting images of men raping children."

That is not normal, even for 10- or 12-year-olds. This is indicative of something other than autism fueling this.

It's really hard to call this not knowing anything about the guy. Having some personal knowlege of Autism my stance is along the line of "if you've seen one person with Autism, you've seen one person with Autism".

An autistic person can have a high IQ but still have no concept of or capacity for empathy, social boundaries or consequences due to the way in which their brain works.

Sounds like this guy has been let down repeatedly too which I'm sure hasn't helped the situation.

Admittedly I am not a fan of retribution anyway, but especially not where someone is unable to understand the consequences of what they are doing (if indeed that is the case here). Just before anyone rips into me, I do agree that if someone is a danger then we have to do what it takes to make it safe for others, but I would much prefer this to be a preventitive measure rather than when it is too late.
