The Moral Decay of Society

Really, this is nothing new, the moral decay of society has been in effect for as long as humans have existed on this planet. From the days of cavemen beating each other with clubs to the days of reality TV and drone strikes.

What does it say about us humans that we find certain aspects of life to be more important than the safety of our children or the feeding of the starved or the shelter for the homeless? It does not warm my heart at all to know we humans find other things to be more important and sustaining to our well being.

If the wealthiest 1% decided to, they could end these problems overnight, could they not? If the corporations and banks wanted to, they could pitch in and get tax breaks, too, right? If the religious icons decided to make it a proclamation of GOD almighty that salvation will be granted to those that help the less fortunate, that would help? Right?

There are countless charitable organizations all over the world, so, why is there still so much poverty? What the hell are they doing with all of their tax deductible charitable donations?

Right now this very second someone is dying from starvation or being exposed to the elements, hot and cold, when there is ample food to feed them and millions of empty houses or buildings to house them. The health of needy children should never be compromised either, ever.

How can we as a society just ignore these very important factors that we face every day? Moral Decay.

I am dirt poor and yet I still find a way to do my part. I am not tooting my horn here, just saying, if I can do it with small donations of my time and effort, by giving whatever I can when I can, how is it that the ones that have the most can’t find a way to do more? It boggles my mind.

We are more consumed by reality TV and Porn and Money than we are helping others and that is just really, really, sad. The moral decay of society is our responsibility to change. I know I am not saying anything new, but I have to get it off my chest.

We are broken and need serious fixing. Forget the new world order and all the conspiracies. We need a new world period. We need a world that cares. We need a world without borders. We need a world without moral decay. We need a major root canal. We need a world where everyone has the very basic needs to survive. We need worldwide health care. We need worldwide food sharing. We need worldwide housing. We need worldwide clothing.

We do not need more wars. We do not need more killing over senseless crap. We do not need more religious rhetoric. We do not need more governing.

We need to hold each other accountable and to insist that the moral decay of society STOPS!

I too wish that things were different and that human lives should matter more. In a world of greed and power, not much has changed really.

Nice Rant. S&F.

The problem in modern society isn't that people don't care. Quite the contrary. Billions upon billions of dollars are given to charities, churches, and governments every year. Yet...as you said. We still have poverty and homelessness. The reason is that most of us are so busy working and raising a family, that we have come to trust others to take the money we give them, and do the right thing with it. But they aren't. They're pocketing that money, and living luxurious lives at our expense, and the expense of those that money was earmarked for.

We need to stop giving to the above money pits, and start dispensing that charity ourselves, the way you just described. That's when a difference will be made.

You forget it's the poors fault for being poor all they have to do is get of their fat behinds and become self employed and they too will become rich.

Yeah I know it's BS but there people here on ATS who have said as much and portray themselves as examples of that approach...so they say.

Agree. I concur!

I am very selective on charities I give to, due to the size of them, and the administrative costs they have. Oxfam and NSPCC a classic example.

I give to local charities. I give food and a drink, and sometimes dog food (if they have a dog) if i see a homeless person. Not money.

My house is a veritable half way house for people we have met on our travels more have found themselves in sticky situations. Sometimes with not great consequences (jewellry stolen) but I would do it again.

We are even going to volunteer this christmas to feed the homeless, or try and find a scheme were you invite someone round to your house, feed them, have a conversation and send them home, cos they are lonely.

DO what you can, when you can.

When I have a problem struggling with the morality and just the state of humanity, I read articles like this:

21 Amazing Times Nobodies Saved The Hell Out Of The Day

#16 and #7 are of particular interest I think.

People really can be amazing. Don't give up.

I feel you 100%, every day that goes by I become more & more miserable and disheartened by the way people are so selfish and greedy.

The things people have done to me in the name of their own selfish ambitions is unspeakable, and this world has made me believe that dying sooner than later would be a better option.

Sure, that is the only reason people are poor, because they are lazy...that is exactly the piss poor attitude we could do without...I suppose the children should just fend for themselves?

Wasn't intended to be a rant, but I suppose it could be considered an editorial, as it was pointed out to me.

I know that the people who could change this quicker just get richer.

I know Star, I just get so incredibly sad whenever I witness people starving and sleeping on the street, especially poor defenseless children.

I am glad to know humanity exist, I just wish the ones that could affect changes more rapidly would do more than just continue to pretend they care and take their tax write offs while lining their pockets and looking the other way.

Dying is not the answer, fighting to keep your head up and to wade through is the only way to change it, I have not given up hope, I just want those around me to open their eyes and see.

Such a sweeping statement would be flawed logic for obvious reasons.
I must have missed the posts where somebody asserted that though, oh well.

*Edit*
If you can remember where you saw that posted on ATS please do share a link or quote, it would be interesting to know the members who actually think the way you describe in your post as quoted above.

Yeah! well said!

and lets ask MrsNonSpecific to also open the eyes to see "of those around us who line their pockets"

but sarcasm aside. i commend your ideas and efforts that come through in this tread

though i ask why should "those around me" (as you called "them") open their eyes and see (different, more they way we want them to see) when they are just as convinced they can see (and want us to see as they do).

after all, they do what they like doing and life seems to support them - the strong and powerful

why does life support them? maybe it's us who could open our eyes to see differently? do we do what we like doing to receive life's support? most of us stand in opposition to them and deliver a piss-weak fight, do more or less what is despised. or worse, suffer quietly

i will also mingle with homeless, displaced and bleeding hearts this christmas as i do every day. and i will enjoy every sparkle and smile from my friends eyes as they eat my xmas cookies. and i will make them truly smile even more

lets support life to tip the balance

I have been bashed in this manner on a thread I started, about a vulnerable teenage mum, in my opinion, not really been giving a standard of living quarters I thought was deserved of a first world.

I had...

You forget it's the poors fault for being poor all they have to do is get of their fat behinds and become self employed and they too will become rich.

... that thrown at me left right and centre, "I was poor, I had no support, so nobody else should either"

Strength comes from choice, do not allow yourself to think you are weak and ineffective.

People always look at some golden era when you could leave your doors open and kids had respect for their elders. Just typical nostalgia or looking back with rose tinted glasses. The story of moral decay has been told through the generations, which should tell you something.
