“Ben and I have each given Bernie a thousand dollars and we have spent probably $500 each on purchasing ice cream that has been used as a donation to the campaign. We still have some capacity to purchase more ice cream as we get more money,” Jerry said.
Their modest donations have still aroused the ire of Sean Spicer, the Republican National Committee’s Communications Director.
As far as he was concerned the ice cream, which Ben and Jerry bought from the company – albeit at an employee discount – and dished out at three rallies, should have been reported to the Federal Election Commission, Mr Spicer said.
The donations were completely above board, Jerry insisted.
