A genuine question for the aviation experts:

What is the exact role for the f-35? Is it designed to be a multi role fighter/Bomber or something completely different?

I was caught in an argument on the web the other day, someone had claimed the f-35 was due to replace the a-10s eventually for CAS mission

It is multi roll. It will be for mostly attack, CAS, ISR and EW work with a little fighter thrown in for good measure.
