A mother coddles her child and the son turns out with a crappy immune system.

A family shelter their children and the real world eats them alive.

A community bubbles their residents and the youth never experience the world.

A nation over-extends social services and the economy inevitably collapses.

A species that takes away the incentive to strive for being your best?

Someone didn't think this through.

There's a balance that must be maintained. When you go too far one way or the other, it's disastrous. Right now it's too far one way.

Compared to when?

Now than ever before, more people are provided social services by their government.

I think you need to take a look at where we've come from, and where we are.

There was a "freak of nature" moment where the EROI was between 100-30:1, and we had it incredibly well in this country.

Things have changed. For a single generation, we had it better than any other nation at any other time in history.

Now, we look to our parents, and complain, without understanding what has changed.

It's really, so, so, so, so much better than 99.999% of our species evolution in the US (and most of the world)
