The Ignorance Around Here Is Thick

I joined ATS years ago because I thought it was the type of crowd I fit into, apparently not. I am so disgusted by the type of behaviour I encounter here. Not everybody is like that here though I do realize that.

Last night I had posted something i found interesting, It is controversial I know but I kind of expected some intelligent conversation and debate on the issue, I got attacked and accused of believing what I had posted, I only wanted to share and discuss it further. I often tell my son if someone has a different opinion than yourself do a little digging to find out why someone thinks differently than yourself and to have an open mind about other people's opinions.

Most of the people that posted didn't even read it at all and just blasted me,even made fun of me. I felt disgusted, some people were extremely rude to me. I am here to Deny Ignorance and lately I just haven't found it here. It seems moderators only seem to have interest in moderating topics they believe in. I don't discount the unbelievable I just look into it and find out more about something to form an opinion and it isn't always 100 % either.

People seem to ignore question marks and words like if , might, maybe and apparently, then just come out and berate you for what you have posted even though you are just presenting something for intelligent discussion and insight, and not necessarily believing it yourself..Unreal how some people can act here sometimes. I often tell my son , do onto one as one wants done onto himself and its a crying shame more people don't do that any more.

I am here to be skeptical about things not ignorant. I never believe anything 100% without having rock solid proof I do how ever have varying degrees of what I think may be possible though and have opinions. I am so disappointed right now.

I feel your pain, but its not just ATS, its most sites on the internet...

I think... Perhaps it's Facebook users equating sharing with liking.

This whole world seems really messed up with the way people treat each other.

ATS was a much different place back in 2008. That's when I first joined with a different account, and it was a good place for conspiracies with solid debate and deliberation. It wasn't always the most friendly place (that hasn't changed), but at least you sort of felt happy to be a part of the community. You kind of got the feeling that this community was doing something good by shining light on dark or mysterious subjects - Now it's just as ignorant as any other forum on the web.

All I really see anymore are posts about people bitching about something or rather. Mind you, this is no fault of ATS...Society, as a whole, has just gone down the crapper.

Once a mod told me to grow thicker skin. So I did and respond in kind and refuse to take any BS. There is a cost involved and a fine line to tread.

And after you are on the receiving end of a few "people like you".....your perception changes and your skin can deflect the slings and arrows of the most stupid, arrogant, intellectually constipated, conceited, egotistical, pompous, smug, snotty and high and mighty of members.

It's just 1s and zeros on the www.

Maybe you have a slightly different view on "ignorance" and "intelligent discussion" than what the words are intended to mean?

If you start a topic on a matter that you don't believe in yourself (and are therefore unable to defend it), what meaningful conversation do you expect to get out of that?
Second, the statement of the earth being the center of the universe is the height of ignorance. Unless it being a theoretical argument if assuming that the universe is infinite (even then that statement is a bit inaccurate since there is nobsuch thing as inf/2).

The world is taking form as Generation Y permeates the culture

It's stems from the dumbing down

The strategies of debate that uphold mocking and screaming incoherently

So in 5 minutes you read the entire article? And watched a 5 min and an 11 min video?

Your reply don't address what is being posted, just attack the poster, did you consider if what he said had merit to the topic?

Most of the post in that topic seems to have evaluated the information at hand and presented they opinions, weak source, in infinite any point can be the center and so on, you asked someone if he was a PhD and the other if he read the thing, not really a discussion of the topic in my opinion, but if you think everyone is the problem and not you

I only wanted to discuss the topic, not get raked over the coals for it. People have different opinions all the time, I don't go around attacking people for them.

If I posted a thread about how the sun really revolves around the earth, you think you could have an intelligent discussion about it?

Denying ignorance is not entertaining someone's off the wall claim.

Asking the person if they had a Ph D was a legitimate question since they asked someone else the same question.

Is it off the wall? it actually did have some really good points to his opinion based on satellite data. I still need to do some more digging on the matter.

I was on my way to bed I had to get up at 5:15 am I actually stated that to be the case.

Do some digging on what I mentioned all you will find ' data' to back it up.

To claim that earth is the dead center the universe, when we really don't know all that much about said universe, is ignorant.
