Sweeping movements spanned miles of territory across southeastern Colorado last week and involved hundreds of vehicles and thousands of Fort Carson soldiers from the post's 1st Brigade Combat Team.

,,,

The new regimen is focused on conquering territory, smashing enemy positions and fighting to win rather than fighting to win hearts and minds.

The battles were fought in Atropia, a mock nation threatened by fictitious rival Donovia. Atropia won.

For the 1st Brigade, the exercise was a final test for a unit that has been built from the ground up in the past 18 months with new equipment, new leaders and new soldiers.

I suppose to Obama, winning would be a new type of warfare to practice. Too bad someone didn't tell him about it long time ago.

Thank you for sharing that. It puts some things in perspective. Reminds me of how we trained years ago.

Who's got lots of ground to cover and soldiers better learn to do it quickly?

Cold War training is back in favor. Wonder why?

Would someone tell Obama that the ROMANS beat him to that already?

This is something the Army has been looking at for a long time. In particular when it would come to a conflict with say China or Russia. The force is to fast for heavy units to catch it and to well armed for light units to stop. They would pretty hit you where you are not. So you either have you heavy forces running all over the place trying to catch them, placing them in open and on the road for airstrikes or you use your heavy forces to garrison everything you see as important in which case you have given up your mobility. It is a bit more complex than that of course.

So I'm not sure what the controversy is.

Brigades are being shut down now. Many of those soldiers still have time on their contracts. Other bases are absorbing these soldiers and since its a new unit they tend to get the latest equipment.

The OP is (I believe) saying this unit is being built to attack and conquer Americans who resist the government. It's not.

Anyone with 2 working brain cells can see the entire military doctrine after the USSR fell went from a major conflict, to nation building. We are going back to doing what soldiers are meant for, war, not nation building. The entire military is going to switch focus, this is just one part of that. We had no rivals, Russia and China have changed that.

Now that would be silly. They could already do that without much problem. Toss a few TLAMs or Artillery into a town until anybody resisting surrendered. That is all an evil tyrannical government would have to do.

His OP references Jade Helm. So silly yes, but it's what he intended.

People are so gullible now a day. You can put a bear trap right in their path then get the mainstream media to tell them it's not a trap and it won't harm them 85% of them would walk on it anyway and loose a leg..

Just a curious question, do you (or anyone reading this) know if British special forces have been or will be involved in this or Jade Helm?

I've noticed over the years that the US military have a tendency to bring in the SBS/SAS for advice / specialist training during missions (for example, the Bin Laden compound raid), and I am wondering if the same might apply here?
