25 year old NYPD officer has died. Thread was created shortly after the initial shooting but got taken down for some reason. Just posting this as an update.

I missed the original post. This is terrible...just terrible. I feel for his family and friends

I'll refrain from anything else, since this site is too full of cop haters for it to matter to too many who'll read this.

My condolences to his family.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

In this case the sword was his badge and gun.

Sadly this is the world we live in. The "bad apples" have caused an environment of distrust where some people rather shoot and kill a police officer than subject themselves to their "service and protection". Demetrius, the killer, is probably a career criminal, and I do not condone his actions, but this is how I see it.

It's us versus them, and the police are them. I would not want to be one of the "lucky ones" who patrol the streets for our corporate overlords in this day and age. You should have all chosen a different profession, just like the military. Now is not the time to be a part of their machine. Shame on anyone who willingly joins these gangs.

It's not about race, regardless what they want you to think.

I heard a rap song on the radio this morning calling for more of this to happen, not looking good from my point of view. It's bonkers everywhere right now. No one is safe.

It's time for people to take their heads out the sand and look behind the curtain.

May he rest in peace.

May his family find peace.

May the killer find himself without any hope of peace for what remains of his life.

Yes, I'm sure he shot at cops because he was afraid of how they might treat him, rather than it having anything to do with his chronic criminality and willingness to fight cops.

Smdh.

I didn't expect my post to be very popular.

Please be aware that I even said that he was most likely a career criminal, and anyone with half a brain can most likely tell that his actions help solidify that claim/theory.

My point was that the society we are currently trapped in is a "us vs them" mentality and he might have seen "them" and did not want to end up like "us". Us, being the excessive amount of innocent civilians dying at the hands of the police each and every day it seems.

I already said I don't condone his actions.

I'm going to say something, and you might not like it.

If a Jack-Boot thug ever tries anything on me, he will regret it.

That includes harassment in any form.

Report me I don't care.

ETA:

My assessment of the situation was obviously theoretical but hopefully you understood that.

I was playing Devil's advocate as a criminal apologist to balance out all you police apologists.

I might not like the current state of LE but blanket hate is not useful..can be very draining in fact. He was 25..way too young and his family gets my condolences for whatever it's worth.

Sad to hear that, I saw the TV report just a while ago, and that the family had the life support turned off, and it was reported that he was critical but stable on a life support yesterday. I suppose the reality was that there was no hope.

The world still needs people with the courage to be in these positions and try to do the right thing...

People like you are always the first ones to say things like this and then bitch when you need help and they arent there to help you.

Youre so far off base on every level it would take days to fix it

You sure were playing D's A. In fact the man is denying the charge/s.
And before you say it, I am not a police apologist, neither am I a criminal apologist, if this man did shoot the policeman, then he himself is no apologist.

very sad to hear - but at least he was honorable and will be remembered as having gone out doing something he knew was necessary. It was a possibility he was aware of when he first signed up to go through training/become a police officer, but nobody should have their life cut so short by their fellow man like that. The perpetrator, "Blackwell" sounds like a true scumbag, one worthy of a painful death.

Rest in Peace Officer Moore - our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends

I do find the apparent need for "balancing out" all us "cop apologists" to be a rather humorous idea. I feel confident in saying we're quite a minority. Perhaps a rather vocal one, but still a minority.

Oh well. Back on the rails of the thread we go!

The number of comments and nature of most of them on this thread would beg to differ - people do care and respect the men and women who serve in the line of duty. Part of the problem though is that when someone chimes in with negative/hateful/ comments it helps others feel that it is okay to have that standpoint, and there's that ripple effect.

It is sad how ignorant people are in our society today, but hope isn't lost.

So I assume you have a reason for hating cops? I assume they treated you in a way you believe was wrong? But how can that be when you are a one man wrecking crew?

You wouldnt be another bottomed out liberal with delusions of grandeur, would you ??

Also, I am not part of the bottom feeders crowd. You are them. Losers, thugs, the feckless and poor are them. Them wear pants at their ankles or have blue hair and voted for obama. I am not a part of your group. Thank you.

Cop's kid here. Boy did I make his life miserable. I hated him and his job and did my best to screw with him. The T&C doesn't allow me to expand on that.

Some just see a badge. Those people are, um......people. Mothers. Fathers, etc. My Dad was a HUGE dude. 300 lbs. Funny seeing a man like that weeping into his hands. Scary really. He had to deal with a highway accident involving kids. Seeing the pinnacle of manhood bent like that was scary. I'm understanding him better the older I get.

Crap! He didn't deserve to be the object of a vengenace killing.

These are bad times, and I have cousins who are LEO. I know them. They don't go to work thinking, "Today, I'm going to do my best to ruin everyone else's life."

The fact of the matter is that between the demands we make on them and the breakdown of society, their job is getting more and more impossible to carry out in the way most of us think of a traditional LEO role. And I don't know how we can fix that without fixing society.

Ah, well, RIP Officer. You barely had a chance to even try to have a record as an LEO for some here to brand you one way or the other.
