Based on a true story, this movie is about the British Miner's strike of 1984 and the lesbians and gays who supported them through it. I really loved this feel-good movie and highly recommend it.

The National Union of Mineworkers was reluctant to accept the group's support due to the union's public relations' worries about being openly associated with a gay group, so the activists instead decided to take their donations directly to Onllwyn, a small mining village in Wales, resulting in an alliance between the two communities.

I haven't seen it yet but I will soon...I grew up in Wales and remember those dark days from my childhood.
I nearly signed up for an apprenticeship with the National Coal Board to become a miner...so glad I didn't when a couple of years later most of the pits were shut down.

Cool. You will LOVE the storyline about the people in Wales. What a beautiful little village!

My husband and I didn't even know about the strike and as we watched the movie, figured it was from a true story. Since then, we've read all about it, of course.

I grew up only 18 miles away from Onllwyn village, I have been there quite a few times passing through to the mountains.
Really looking forward to watching it now, thanks for posting here

It's a great film I watched it over Christmas. 2 unlikely groups supporting each other. I'd never heard of the story until I watched the film Some great acting and a good soundtrack.

It's a terrific film. I viewed it about 6 weeks or so ago. I laughed, I cried. I felt proud of those courageous and outrageous folks who took a chance and made history.

Recommended it in the recent "LGBT rant" thread - as it really shows why it's important to speak up, take action, whenever rights are being trampled on by others. And it shows compassion, understanding, growing in respect and appreciation.

And it's a fun story too.
