Has anyone seen a rainbow like this before ?

Its a great photo taken in Queensland Australia by a lady named Ann Britton,courtesy of my GF's facebook feed...i so hate facebook but it can be useful sometimes.....

It is beautiful. I am in the land of rainbows here in Hawaii so fortunate to have one everyday somewhere on the island. Have witnessed some spectacular rainbows but that one you have shown is special indeed...thanks for sharing !

Not that vertical, going up to that altitude. Awesome picture.

Perhaps god picked out someone special at the end of that rainbow .

My picture isn't as beautifully colourful as yours but I never thought I would see another rainbow like it so thought I would share it! Weird eh?

Yes I have!

As you know, rainbows form when a patch of atmosphere has a certain amount of moisture in it, the droplets of which refract the light and split it into the wonderful colours with which we are all familiar. The reason the rainbow terminates at the cloud line in the image you posted, and the image posted by LadyLurk, is that the atmosphere above the cloud has a different moisture content, and so does not refract the light in the same way.

As for the why: Above the cloud it don't rain.
