Just seen this on the BBC and thought it was very interesting given some of the characters we have on ATS. Reading through the leaked tactics of the business at hand, there are at least two active members here who follow these instructions to the letter in every thread about the Russia/Ukraine conflict. Even the personalities or manufactured identities of those posters seem to correlate to the guides these "operatives" are supposed to work under.

Here are some of the best bits:

Though the existence and even whereabouts of the alleged "cyber army" are no secret, recent media reports appear to have revealed some details of how one of the tools of Russian propaganda operates on an everyday basis.

Typical troll accounts, Moy Rayon noted, were operated by people posing as "housewives" and "disappointed US citizens".

"It was mandatory to convey the message to the people that Nemtsov's murder was a provocation ahead of the [opposition] march and that he was killed by his own associates," she said.

"What Russians are trying to go for is kind of a reverse censorship," he told Ukrainian internet-based Hromadske TV ("Public TV"). They cannot censor the information space, but can "trash it with conspiracy theories and rumours", he argues.

No doubt our governments are capable of producing the same impact (quite pointless in reality, as the piece says public opinion is not generally swayed by anything other than TV and News media) but it's interesting to see this being openly discussed now.

So let's ignore them.

They specifically mention Russian trolls having the goal of spreading the idea that Nemtsov was killed by his associates. I can think of at least 3 ATSers who were in the main nemtsov thread saying this. I guess it's no surprise, but they are infact in our midst. ATS should have a policy to deal with these people :

It's the BBC, state television for the U.K., which side do you think they're representative of? Haha

Here's a interesting take from the Ukraine:

There is a good saying that applies to all you Russia haters - "the dog is barking but the carriage keeps rolling".

Translation for those of you who are unable to comprehend: while you waste your time here voicing your funny, ignorant, ill-informed and uneducated opinions, Russia silently goes about securing their interests, business as usual.

To put it even more simply for some special people here: nothing you write or do here has any weight or effect other then the 50c per post some of you make for food scraps at the expence of your morals. You don't matter. Bunch of zeros.

Psychology 101 - the cause of your hate and behavior is fear.

Peace

This must be that disinfo campaign the west was talking about waging against Russia.

That should have Russia shaking in their shoes /sarcasm

Looks like I've rilled some members.
Keep it going guys, we're just waiting for you to start ranting about the evil west, the Nazis in Kiev and their evil Jewish backers...

It's on that script in front of you, you better not deviate from the narrative, lest your supervisor start docking your Rubles. You need as many as you can get now that your mortgage has doubled.

I once saw a thread on another site. Where they claimed it was neo-Nazis controlled by Jews! LOL

I'm serious because you can't make something like that up.

BBC reporting on a story from Ukraine, supported by documents and witnesses from Russia.
It's known fact that this propaganda entity exists, and in case you missed it I stated in my opening post that I fully expect us to have propaganda too.

I mentioned in another thread just yesterday that the EU is gearing up to combat Russian propaganda in the Baltics.

Here's the important bit... we don't deny it! We're not stupid enough to think we can convince people that our nations are glorious bastions of ethics and freedom. We're well aware that the UK, US and others are hypocrites in many ways. We have no doubt that our governments are capable of propaganda too.

The difference is, we are not blind to this and ridiculous in our absolute denials of it. The fact that so many utterly reject the very notion of Russian propaganda makes it even more obvious.

The campaign currently being discussed in the EU is targeted at the Baltic states, they don't need to be trying to "sway" UK, US and European citizens.

Russia has been actively spreading propaganda throughout the Baltics for more than two years, even going so far as to hack into the broadcasts of neighboring nations to block information from being broadcast. That's what the EU plan is designed to combat.

"housewives" and "disappointed US citizens".

Hilarious because last time i checked we still have millions of these , a extra few Housewife743 or AngryGrandma123 stashed away in some low lit sweatshop on government payroll aren't gonna change nothing

Well, for all that nonsense about our opinions being worthless, you sure do seem very concerned with desperately expressing your opposition.

I have a saying for you too - The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

I'm pretty sure the ban hammer will soon need to be wielded, with lightening speed and efficiency.
I give them maybe 48 hours at the most before there's a total expletive driven meltdown.

People are blind to it and some don't even know it, propaganda use on your own people isn't just disgusting, it's a total insult to anyone with intelligence.

The BBC is a vile broadcaster, hated in Scotland because of what they did during the referendum, for their masters of course.

Amd a word from the wise, you should wake up to the propaganda spread from your own side first

I am well aware thanks.
A cursory look through my previous posting will show all those who care to look that I really do not trust the BBC. In this case, the source is credible, the information and claims made are supported by additional information, the reality is visible to the majority of us.

Do you really reject the notion that there has been a very visible campaign of pro-Russian propaganda across the internet over the last year?

I can't fathom how anyone can possibly deny this, it's as plain as day to even the most naive.
