Putin's New "Protocols"

This thread is dedicated to debating a claim made by pro-Putin propagandists: that the government in Kyiv is run by Nazis, and these Nazis are backed by Jews. This is a variation on the old "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" calumny, which itself was born of the Okhrana, an earlier incarnation of the Russian KGB.

Specifically, we have this post that a member has attempted to derail another, unrelated, thread with:

Poroshenko IS a jew. From jewish family... Its a fact. His father name was Walcman. He changed name to his wife name, Poroshenko. Its not a crime of course but it tells something... And hes father was also a well known fraud and thief in the 80's.

There are nazis in Ukrainian goverment. Its a fact. Members of well known neo-nazi organizations... Prawyj Sector for example.

And battalions "Aidar" and "Azov" are funded by jews. You want names? Igor Kolomoisky for example.

This tirade was accompanied by photographs of members of Azov Battalion in WWII era German uniforms, military insignia copied from German insignia, etc. Basically, a series of images design to raise the blood pressure of people who associate Nazism with imperialism genocide, rather than with the foreign troops who fought against imperialism and genocide. It is difficult to believe, but if you know Stalin was a real bad guy, Hitler starts to look like a good guy. After what Stalin did to Ukraine, Hitler looked like a good guy. I'm sure we'll debate this point at greater length. Suffice to say, the images were intentionally inflammatory-- and misleading.

What this member is attempting to do is advance the Kremlin's ambiguous new propaganda offensive. On the one hand, it needs to maintain the fiction that their invasion of Ukraine was necessary to defend "ethnic Russians," to which end it needs to play up the presence of extreme nationalists in the Maidan movement, portraying them as "Nazis." Even though Right Sektor no longer exists and Svoboda polled less than 5% in the last election, Russian propaganda routinely refers to the government in Kyiv as "Nazi." On the other hand, it needs to account for the fact that many of the most conspicuous members of the Ukrainian government, and many of the leading citizens are Jewish or of Jewish ancestry.

Compounding the obvious dilemma of needing to portray a nation that is friendlier towards Jews than Russia traditionally is as "Nazi," Putin himself has been cultivating extreme right wing and neo-Nazi groups like FN and Greece's Golden Dawn for support, as detailed here.

In order to resolve this quandry, the FSB, the direct descendant of the Okhrana, by way of the Cheka, Smersh, and the KGB, has dusted off one of its classic pieces of disinformation: "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion." This piece of hatchet work was allegedly discovered in the Jewish cemetery in Prague, and supposedly details the minutes of a meeting of the leaders of a vast, world-wide conspiracy of Jews. In fact, it was mostly plagiarized from a French satirical piece entitled: "A Dialogue In Hell Between Montesque And Machiavelli." The general thrust of the work is that everything is the result of behind the scene manipulation by "Zionists;" Jews. Every revolution is funded by Jews towards their nefarious ends. Every rebellion is fomented by Jews as part of their plan. Every government is controlled by Jews through bribery and financial manipulation. I don't think regular ATS members need further explanation; we see these accusations made continually here.

Russian propagandists now claim that the Kyiv government is run by Nazis who are waging a genocidal war against the Slavic People, or Slavyanskii Narod, славянский народ. These Nazis are, of course, funded by those implacable enemies of the Slavic race, the Jews. After all, everyone knows, thanks to the Protocols, that Jews will use deception, portraying themselves as victims, when it is they themselves who are responsible. The bonus here is that Russian propagandists can appeal to neo-Nazi groups who admire Putin's Fascist government by implying that the Ukrainian Nazis are not "real" Nazis; rather they are Jewish "puppet Nazis," who are being controlled by the evil Zionists to attack fellow Europeans rather than being committed to the survival of the White Race.

Thus, we see a fevered attempt to create the impression that the government in Kyiv is Nazi, and that these Nazis are the blunt instrument of Jews. This is classic Anti-Semitism, straight out of the Protocols. It is assumed, you will note, that "everybody knows" that "Jews fund Nazis." This can easily lead down the path to Holocaust Denial.

This concludes the introductory post; I will address specific allegations in later posts.

Before this devolves into a pissing contest, I'll say well done, great thread.

The hypocrisy of the Russian propaganda is beginning to unravel, and it's delicious to watch. Now if only Western propaganda would dial down a bit.

This is an interview from the Ukrainian Pravda with a Lvov deputy who was also a commander of the 4th regiment of "Dnepr" battalion...

In fact, the Right Sector is the umbrella organization for various Ukrainian ultra-nationalist organizations. Although the current Ukrainian parliament is full of ultra-nationalists, apparently to mislead the public many of them did not officially affiliate with the Right Sector or any other infamous ultra-nationalist groups.

So here is what we have now in Kiev: the Ukrainian parliament is full of people who ran around Maidan with Molotov cocktails, then marched to the East to bomb Donbass, and are now demanding more authority for their local government in Lvov, just as Donbass did a year ago.

To be honest, some people live on a different planet when looking at facts.

In the 2014 Parliamentary elections in Ukraine, the Right Sector won one seat and gained less than 2% of the national vote. How do you make that equate to a parliament inhabited by ultra-nationalists. Think it though.

Fact, fact, facts. I know they hurt, but you have to take them on board else you start rabbiting untruths.
