1,196 on Aug 23 2011 @ 19:45 GMT.

Most registed members in one day:
7,098 on Aug 24 2011 @ 08:30 GMT.

If anyone can remember what sparked this mass event I would love to know?

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake strikes Napa, California, in the northern San Francisco Bay area, It was the largest earthquake to strike northern California since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

From wiki, this would get us going here on ats IMO

I see Wikileaks disclosures and Bradly Manning also around that time.

+ ATS has been abandoned by certain members because of having to wrestle too much through the same stuff, which bugs the hell out of some people.

That was when ATS still dabbled in/entertained conspiracy theories. The new ATS (post 2012) now debunks everything without question or debate, and follows the mainstream agenda of the day without question or debate. Just my .02.

Nothing huge then just a few different things at what I imagine ATS was peaking.

I've seen that and wondered the same thing. Oh I just googled and there was a rare 5.3 earthquake in Virginia which probably spawned a ton of new Madrid threads. I live within 60 miles of the epicenter of that quake and remember it quite clearly.

I was wrong about it being Ghaddafi, he was a couple of months later

There's lots of questions and debates that I see, perhaps you are thinking of another ATS?

I think you nailed it there. I believe it was the Creepy Website Mystery. I can say that, after lurking for years, that thread caused me to join. ...and there sure were alot of new members on that thread.

Sure there are still some questions and debates, but nothing like what once was. If a conspiracy topic is posted that isn't backed up by some mainstream source, it is immediately dismissed out of hand/"debunked". Most of the people that were willing to entertain the what if's and maybe's, have been replaced by the hardcore skeptics and debunkers.

Well the Virginia 'quake occurred on August 23 at 1:51:04 local time which near equates to the near eight-o-clock in the UK.
Say a five hour difference between the GMT time and Virginia local time, plus another period for US posters to gather thoughts, plus the UK users likely being busy online anyway at that time, kind of fits well enough. The second time-line could well be in part a result of the first time-line from the late nighters on the US side, It's possible.

Well, I asked that same question myself when I looked up the stats for "slayers" thread.

I remember that EQ! I felt it while sitting on a couch on LI, NY. I heard my pans clank and felt a tremor and was like wtf? I'm positive I ventured to good ole ATS right after I assumed it was an EQ.

We never have EQ's on the island.
