I think us British have this down to a tee.
I also think it is a great ability to have, it lightens the mood for all and at the end of the day funny.
I think most Americans can do it also btw.
So can you do it?
Can you laugh at yourself infront of others?.

Here is a link to understand us Brits more anyhow. (and all our odd pompous silly culture
)

Of course you have to laugh at yourself....if you didn't,you would just be a serious buttwad that nobody would want to be around.
If someone can't take a good rib and is that serious....meh,I don't have a lot of time.

I think it has to do with being able to at least approximate objectivity.

Of course, there is a syndrome of compulsive self-deprecation which has become fashionable that I do not think is constructive.

I laugh at myself every morning, three times before I even get downstairs. Coincidentally, there are three mirrors upstairs, one in my bedroom, and two in the bathroom. How much the two things have to do with one another, I will leave to the imagination of the membership!

I think that is why I love Downton Abby and find it so intriguing from a Texas point of view.
They take their position very seriously much as Texans do. Ya'al know what I mean?

Here's another take on the whole gamut of being English and laughing at it all.. it's an update of an old TWTWTW sketch,

This is a conspiracy site where self humor is a must. If you can't chuckle about yourself chatting with your tinfoil friends, then you're taking yourself too seriously.

Something I heard a while back that always stuck with me was "Learn to laugh at yourself because everyone else is going to"
and it is true. Life is serious only if you make it so, and stress is much less when you have a sense of humor about yourself and other people.

You can laugh at my overall size. And you can poke fun at me being fat. By all means, poke fun at me needing a haircut or shave (although i have short hair now).

But don't you dare say nuthin' bout Texas!

Ill smack somebody if they laugh at ME!!!!, ,,just kidding, I dig it, its like a form of attention for me. Sadly my dad was a Shelby cobra fanatic so he named me Carroll after Carroll Shelby. Its not that I get tired of the same ole boy named sue jokes, it just pisses me off in general because there are thousands of boy names and its not cool. Even though the word Carroll in greek means "man", as well as a difference in spelling ie "carol, carole" are the female spelling but its a girl name in general.

The ability to laugh at ourselves makes life a little bit more bearable on a daily basis. Without it the world would absolutely suck instead of just mostly suck.
