Well my guys stained an entire kitchen the wrong color. We basically have to start over now.
Crap happens,, I know,,
They felt bad,,, probably
It's forgivable, I'm not a yelling jerk boss.

Then one of them said "just write it off"
Wtf!
Do you even know what that means?!
For me to write of 5k I have to spend 5k..
Then that's 5k off of the business income that I don't have to pay taxes on..aaahhh!

When you have no clue what you are talking about,,,don't talk!

Sorry..... rant over...I need a beer.

Yikes. I would be upset, but if it was an honest mistake, can't be too mad at them for it.
I wonder if the guy who said "Just write it off" could "write off" losing 5K.

Anyone who has the view of 'just write it off' is possibly not committed to your cause.

Don't fire the guy off what I say though

Yes.
OP should 'write it off' the loudmouths paycheck in installments.

It is difficult to fire people where I am at, mainly because we have such difficulty in getting good help.

Pretty sure that's illegal.
Again it's not the mistake that bothers me as much as the attitude.

I guess you can write it off to the current economy.

Oh, it is.
You don't have to give him a Christmas bonus though.
And remember his attitude when raise time rolls around.

Yeah, that is weird. We advertize in trade publications and use headhunting services, but still have trouble finding people to hire. With the unemployment rate as high as it is in the area, one would think we would have people swarming us, but we don't even get underqualified people coming in with their resumes.

Rofl. I think you're being too hard on the guy. I mean... If the deed was an honest mistake than so be it. And I guess some people mis-interpret others. It's part of working with people. It's a possibility that he didn't mean to be a smart-ass about it, but that's the way it seemed to not only the OP and the people in this thread. Probably a firm talking to and the advice to watch his mouth would be enough of a punishment for this guy.

I don't think so.
I was just reinforcing your point.
At least, I thought I was.

I was just being me and not really making a point (sort off) but wanted to see if I could get the thread title into a post and say 'write it off'.

Yeah, I suppose.
I get tired of dealing with the same sort of attitudes from the guys in my department. These same guys bitch when the profit sharing contribution from the company is lower than previous years.... even though we are busy as hell.

That's the problem. He was trying to downplay a huge financial hit when he had no clue what he was talking about.
