A magnitude 6.8 earthquake shook Nagano Prefecture in central Japan on Saturday at about 10:08 PM local time or 13:08 UTC. Officials at Japan's Meteorological Agency say the focus was at a depth of about 10 kilometers in the north of the prefecture. They say there is no danger of a tsunami. The tremor registered intensities of 6-minus on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7 in parts of Nagano Prefecture. Areas in neighboring Niigata Prefecture registered intensities of 5.
