This post is more a request for information / opinion, than my own
well-developed opinion. But I'd like to get a discussion started,
if others, especially more long-term members would like to assist
that would be great.

Now this is not a new idea, that being that ATS is a great place for
various individuals or organizations to get attention for their ideas,
and perhaps start some sort of social movement or at least test
the viability of a social movement, or an alternation to an already
existing social movement.

I was reading the 'stinky/famous' thread in the UFO forum today,
and I was just shaking my head. Same old #, different day
(SSDD). IMHO.

Now I'm a new-comer to ATS relatively speaking, but in my case
the reason I joined up, was that I had come across some of the
Hidden Hand stuff on the internet and wanted to read more about
it. At that time I had zero interest in conspiracy stuff and while
I had heard of ATS I had no interest in ATS for that reason.

But after reading the Hidden Hand material I found ATS fascinating
and have been around here ever since.

The thought today came up, that perhaps there is never a very long
period of time on ATS without one of these 'social engineering
experiments' running, and that perhaps it's even on a schedule..
you know... get people all whipped into a lather about some
nonsense.. let it ferment.. grow wings.. take voluminous study
notes.. then have the author disappear and let things settle
down an appropriate amount before introducing the next
test into the petri dish (ATS).

Now here's my request for input part. I don't know what others
would consider 'one of these major test events', and what
the time-line and chronology would be.

For example, Hidden Hand / Illuminati for sure.. some people
I care about are still twisting their noodles about this to this
day and it's old.

I imagine the "Armageddon.co.uk" stuff is another.. that one
actually got me so interested I tracked down some of the
leadership behind it to their actual real street addresses..
(which I'm 100% mum about).. but I spent months on this...
that was quite an impact on my life.

And of course the current stanky mess in the UFO forum
which I put on the same exact level as these others
(personally I do --- there are certainly true believers
who think it's mostly or entirely legit).

So if any of the more senior members could list the other
big flaps which might meet the criteria of perhaps being
a major social engineering experiment that gets people
so sucked up by it that some become unstable/suicidal
or have other very extreme reactions; i for one would
be interested in such a list to discuss. I've only been
here 1 year and have stuck to only a couple forums,
so that's why I'm asking for input.

Call me curious.

Now for the record and I'm not saying this for 'cover'
but because I truly believe it.. ATS is my favorite
destination on the Internet (other than wikipedia -
sorry) and it seems that much good is done on it..
real conspiracies busted sometimes.. it's an awesome
site.. but anything positive will always have some folks
trying to misuse it.

The first thing I can think of would be the RK triangles.
For anyone who doesn't know, a member created a thread giving details about the black triangle ufos and a secret space program before promptly disappearing. This member was vouched for by other established members, one of whom I believe works for Northrop Grumman.
The original thread has sparked quite a few discussions.

ATS used to have an official ATS games forum and games aka social engineering, run randomly by ATS mods and Admin and here is a link to that hidden forum for your research purposes ...

ATS sponsored games & events forum (page 1 of 13)

Now I have no clues why they no longer run games and why the forum is now hidden

As for more real events, such as a real manchurian candidate on ATS, I suggest you Google for Erad3 aka Jarad Loughner!

Thanks for the response.

I was asking about events on ATS where supposed insiders
or other 'credible people' do some sort of 'revelation' which
gets various people all excited, some people damaged,
and overall the whole things gains a life of it's own.

I'm aware of the ones already mentioned, but I was looking
for others --

any forum or category is fine..

I understand that I might not get many responses, due to
the controversial nature of the question; I'm not looking
to stir any pots.. I'm looking for data.. I thought for sure
that the equivalent of 'atom bomb blasts on the forum'
over the years would have been noticed by some of the
more senior members...

As a newish member, I don't have the perspective to
answer my own question. Heck "Language of Vampyre"
might qualify.. but i don't know.. there must have been
some really famous threads of this nature in the past.

Well, you know I'm breaking out the jiffy pop for this one. I'm basically gonna bumpity for now as I just got in. I can think of a few things we might could, ahem, address, but while I ponder that, let's acknowledge that sometimes ATS might just be one conduit for social engineering/meme propagation. In that ilk, I'll forgo the obvious Serpo hoax/psyop and I will mention another fairly recent series of events that seemed to be designed for some such socio-experimentation: Chad Drones.

Just my guess on that one. I'll try and bring some stuffs to the table when I can goof off a little and focus on this subject, which is of particular interest to me.

Honestly this seems like a not so subtle and frankly chicken poop attempt to discredit and make fun of well respected and unselfish members that go out of their way to make interesting and informative posts for appreciative members. But that is just my opinion.

Beyond that on the subject of your thread I think the list of possible ops is so long that I can't even recall how many I have seen in my 8 years here. I think the Chad Drones is a great example, maybe even the best. The Mars face is another big one, as well as the Android head on the moon. I think we can also add the FEMA camps/body bags as well. I know there is a ton more I will try and remember some as the day goes on.

Ask anyone who knows me personally
on ATS; im not that kind of person.

Asking for a list of the most controversial
and long-running threads over the years
shouldn't be a big deal.

Yes, I mentioned another thread where
people have posted repeatedly about
becoming unstable or suicidal as a
result....and that had in fact happened
in various of the big threads....is still
happening from threads from 2008
actually.

Im not picking on anyone...

The Ebola panic was actually very emotionally and physically draining for me personally. I had actually suspected on my own, that to some degree there may have been a larger purpose behind it. Maybe.

on two separate occasions (2 separate telecom entities) i can recall;
(topics where op asks opinion of telemarketing scheme)...
'Promises handsome compensation' -"should i trust them"?
so while i read topic in browser, my phone rings with guess who showing caller id?

so i don't open them topics...nor answer my phone.

quite a wide spectrum of hooliganism?

imagine having access to 404 archives? would ats admin initiate a 404 topic? i doubt it.

Starred!

Here is another big thread by cosmicpixie, who was the Author of the Hidden Hand thread that you have already read, and so I provide this to further expand your awareness of what that poster actually brought to ATS it was so big one thread could not contain all of it ...

Alleged NASA -Affiliated Astronomer Deciphers 'Intelligence' Signal From Nearby Stars.

Note that it is in the HOAX Forum which may provide more richer pickings for your tastes in the big ATS hoaxes and cons.

I'd also try look up Bernard Snitzel and their 100's of banned accounts and closed introduction threads ... just go to search and type in "destinyone" and "is that you bernard?" because she is famous for sniffing his BS a country mile away when the wind is blowing the other way [she nailed him like easy 20+ times! ] and he usually spun a storyline along the lines of being some nasa scientist or worker and having stuff to reveal etc.

Good luck!
